Holley Thunder 5.4L
Just looked through a Sport Truck magazine that had new items from the SEMA Show. It showed a supercharger system from Holley. It is called a 5.4L Thunder. Said it is a roots-type like the Lightning, but puts out 30 more horsepower! No mention about the price. Possible solution to those who want Lightning performance withoout the price.
Well I spoke to a Holley rep today at the "SuperNationals" car show about the 5.4L Thunder...he said to stop by their dealers this week that they have some brochures on it and that it retails for around $5,200...YIKES!!! after buying the truck and adding mods, then that holley and you'll definitley be right up there in price with the Lightning!!!

I just recieved an info packet from holley today about the new "thunder" blower. The system looks pretty cool on top of the 5.4, but there are a lot of things which have to be modified and changed for the system to work. You will need a new alternator along with a darn good knowledge of how to work on engines to get the system to work. It requires removing the intake manifold and instaling all sorts of pieces such as fuel injectors and a new throttle body, a new tps system and fuel pump. I would probably go with the kenne bell unit and if you wanted more power run more boost and higher octane.

HI!... SLICK X : I thought the same thing! The KENNE BELL "BLOWZILLA" is much cheaper $5200(U.S) vs $3700(U.S)! The KENNE BELL supercharger is much more installer freindly. I would gladly sacrifice the 30 H.P the HOLLEY kit gives for the KENNE BELL kit.The KENNE BELL kit gives a stock "99" 5.4 306H.P at the rear wheels. By the way I can get that 30H.P back with a set of headers and true duel exhaust.30H.P for an extra $1500(U.S)! NO THANKYOU!lol! I'll stick with KENNE BELL.

That Price difference may be DECEIVING!!
Any time you supercharge an engine you have to make other mods. Forcing that much more air into the engine means you have to get the fuel there to go with it also. And the greater the boost (amount of air being forced in), the more fuel you need to be supplied or you risk running your engine too lean.
If you run a little rich on the fuel mixture, the excess just burns off and you see a little smoke in the exhaust (no big deal), but too lean and you can get pre-detonation in your cylinders and can lock up an engine, break rods, etc. So you should consider the fuel amounts required for the level of boost for the superchargers which could mean having to use larger injectors, fuel pumps, fuel regulaters, etc. Also, you may be required to add larger throttle bodies, mass air meters, etc. to handle that extra air flow as well.
So depending on what is included in each kit and the amount of boost each kit produces, the price difference might not be that much.
Just my opinion.

HI!... CHRIS : The KENNE BELL "BLOWZILLA" Uses your stock throttle body and MASS AIR meter. The kit comes with their famous "BOOST A PUMP". I was told by KENNE BELL that larger fuel injectors were not needed with this kit till you go past 8PSI. This paticular kit comes with a 6PSI blower pulley.

That's cool, I know that Kenne Bell had the boost-a-pump to eliminate the lean fuel problem, but I didn't know it came with the kit. That is great!

From my understanding the blower is made by B&M. The model line is the powercharger 144...Or something like that. Chris is right in the fact Holley does not make the blower themselves but instead took over the B&M supercharger line.
