remote start tach wiring

have a 2001 f-150 5.4. have everything hooked up according to directions and it does not start. The lights flash 7 times which in the diagnostics book says "system did not detect tach signal" and "Tach lock out - see dealer". im pretty sure i have it tapped into the correct wire (white/pink at pcm). has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it? thanks

Sometimes, when you have multi packs, you have to have an optional add on to make it take the signal.

On the 5.4L it is a lt. green/white at the coil on the passenger side of the motor between the fuel injectors.

Youll need an adaptor. Call the manufaturer and they can tell you which one. (or if ther eis a tech support line,c all them)

Have you tried measuring the wire. It doesn't have to be a TACH wire specifically. Just a 0-7V AC wire that varies with RPM. Almost any Coil wire will work. Use your multimeter and check for it. You don't need to buy an extra adaptor. If you absolutely cannot get a tach wire, you can always switch to "voltage checking" or, there is a setting for low voltage/high voltage tach check. Look in your manual, now that you know it exists, you will find it.
