Alarm Question

Have a quick question guys, did a search and read alot of things but now it leaves me with this.

Looking at in the near future of getting a alarm installed, was thinking of a mid level Viper system, not really intersted in a remote start so not really concered about that but I have read alot of problems or issues with the Viper systems.

Was just curious how good the one that Ford offers and if it would be better with going with that one since it is offered by Ford?

I had the Ford Gold unit put on when I got my truck,it has both remote start and alarm.I get more out of the remote start then the alarm, the Gold has a life time warranty as long as you have the truck. The installer makes for a good or bad install so check who has less come backs on installs.I think for the price and warranty get both with what ever you go with.

Thanks for the reply, how much does the gold package run for and does it include installation? Also on the Ford alarm does it include a siren or does it just use the horn?

It has a siren and uses the horn too. The unit cost around give or take 300 but the labor was about 300 too,it was the 1st time for the dealer to install a Codealarm unit so I didn't come out too good on cost.Others on the form had it installed for the cost of the unit,in bigger citys you can get better deals and now others in town that sell alarms now have the labor is figured in the cost of the unit. The tech that did it was good so I got my moneys worth. So check the dealers for the best deal on the Codealarm with install. The range is great on the remote start and I'm sure you like it once you get it.
PS: if you do have anything installed leave both keys so they can reprogram the remotes for the unit and had to make a 2nd key for I had left only one with them.

Thanks for the tip on the keys, I will check into pricing with my dealer when they finally get my step bars and other accessories in and I take it in for them to install the stuff.

Thanks again
Mike

Any product by DEI (Viper, Python, Valet etc..) installed by a DEI dealer has a lifetime warranty. Most of the issues I hear of with DEI products is due to improper installation.

So far the only one around me that does Viper is my local Circuit City so not real sure how they would do, I know my buddy had his 97 Explorer done by them and he ended up with two problems but he took it back and they fixed it right away with now problems.

Have not looked around at many local shops though, I will check with Ford when my parts come in and do some checking around on the Viper Kits, this would be my first alarm so I am not real fimilar with any of the local alarm shops.

thanks guys for the help
Mike

Add to that fact that DEI, who makes Viper, is the largest seller of automotive alarms in the entire freaking world. When you sell 5 times more than your next competitor, you are going to have more reports of problems.

The units themselves are bulletproof and idiot proof. What that aren't is "crappy-installation" proof.

If you want a good install, find the guys who are certified by MECP and only solder their connections. These two factors will guarantee that the installer wants to do the job right and not have it come undone.
