AF-1 Making MAF Sensor "Dirty"
AF-1 Making MAF Sensor "Dirty"
I read a thread over in the Chips and Programming section where a guy was doing dyno runs "Cleaned" his MAF sensor and gained 8 RWHP! Apparently the oil in the AF-1 or K&N intake systems coats some sort of sensor wire screwing up its readings!
Anyone know anything else on this? Are there any sources online for how to clean a MAF without damaging it - apparently thats easy to do.

Get a can of electronics cleaner from a good auto parts house. Make sure you get the type that is safe for plastic and paper. It will say so on the can. Spray the wire sensor area of the the MAF. Rinse and repeat. (just kidding, don't run it under the water to rinse it. Just repeat)

Hey guys, I was the one that originally posted the thread about the dirty MAF because of overcoating of oil. Just wanted to let you guys know that I am running the K&N intake. I put it on from the factory box and it was like 3 weeks later when I went and had my truck dyno tested. So, it wasn't from my re-oiling. Now, it is entirely possible that it had too much oil on the filter from the factory. But the dyno did show an 8 rwhp gain after the clean. Surprised the heck out of me but I was pleasantly surprised nonetheless.
It does kinda suck to know that I may have to replace the MAF sensor early because of this though.
P.S.

I was one of the ones to say the Dawgs would lose to my Tigers but I have to admit they handed us our @sses. Good luck in the BCS.

tbizzle - do you really think you will have to replace the MAF sensor - rather than just clean it? I've been cleaning mine (as described above) on several Mustangs for a few years now and have had good results......MAF sensor for my '05 Mustang GT is approx. $125.00 -$150.00/ea.....just curious why you think you may have to replace the unit - does "careful" cleaning of the MAF acutally damage it?
