Question Airaid FIPK/Hypertech Stalling Problem?

Hi All,

I was driving to work this morning and started having some problems with
my truck...

Two weekends ago, I installed an Airaid FIPK on my '97 5.4, the truck
also has a Hypertech chip and Gibson cat-back. The kit I was shipped
had no air filter, so we created a makeshift filter from my other K&N
and a rubber piece that was removed from the truck to make way for the
FIPK. The negative cable on the battery was disconnected the entire
time until install was complete. The truck has run flawlessly until...

Last night, I received the correct filter, so I disconnected the
negative cable of the battery, removed the old filter and replaced it
with the correct one. I replaced the battery cable and went to sleep.

This morning, I let the truck warm up for about five minutes then left
for work. Half a mile down the road, it stalled. I re-fired it, it
stalled. I tried later tried revving the motor, it would peak at 2000
rpm's, then stalled. After 20 minutes of this, I gave up and am now
home typing this message, figuring out how I am going to get to work.

Any advice or suggestions? Has the Hypertech chip not realized the
addition of more air and will just take time to reset itself? Should I
disconnect the battery cable again? Please, I need to get to work! :-)

Hey Steve, sounds like a fuel supply problem to me, check your fuel filter. Did any of the idiot lights come on? If not, it probably isn't the computer. The Airaid filter is smaller than the stock K&N and there really shouldn't be any difference in air supply or flow. Could also be a batch of bad gas.

Further info...

The Check Engine light did come on.

I am actually in the middle of a tank of 93 octane...which has worked fine so far.

It is the coldest morning to date since I installed the Airaid, but the truck lives in a garage overnight...

Steve,
I have a K&N kit, This Monday I put in a Hypertech chip. I have'nt had any problems yet...

Maybe try disconnecting the neg and check all the connections on your Airaid kit, if that doesnt help try removing you chip for now and then try start/running it, if that doesnt help it most likely something eles, gas supply or something...Good luck!

Webmaster, I installed a K&N filter setup and a performance module (Jet) and all was great until the temp. dropped to 18 degrees when Ileft for work my truck stalled at the first stop then it was hard to start, drove for about 4/10 mile & stalled again restarted and stalled about the same distance as the first time. The fourth time it stalled Iwas going 55+ and just shut off. I live 4 miles from dealer so I limped it in I left it there all day they tested and drove it all day with and without module. What they told me was when you disconnect the battery and add something new it takes about 40 drive cycles (in all temps.) for the computer to get feedback from all the sensors. He said to drive it about two days. The truck hs not stalled since I left the dealer 3 weeks ago.I hope this helps let me know.

I had a similar problem on a Buick. It turned out that when I serviced the air cleaner, I knocked the tube loose between the MAF sensor and the intake. It doesn't take much of a leak to make an engine run funny. Sounds like a leak to me.

Good Luck

Did you get the code number when your check engine light came on? That code can helpful in finding the problem.
