Answer

Gentlemen,

The answer is as easy as getting an Autometer Tach Adapter. Then you can run any conventional tachometer in your COP (coil on plug) engine.

Its easy to install and it provides the pulses needed to drive the tach. I got mine frm the JEG's on-line catalog at http://www.jegs.com

4.6 isn't a COP engine. You could try the RED/GREEN wire at the coil module for tour tach signal. You can tell if it's the correct wire if you set your multimeter to AC volts, ground the black lead and connect the red lead to the red/green wire. Then start the truck and check for a voltage. The voltage should raise as the engine is reved.

Hey, that's what were all here for, to help each other out. I have a 5.4 also so I don't know a whole lot about the 4.6

Any basic tach should have 4 wires.

(+) with ignition on
(-) ground
(+) with parking lights on
tach signal
