Question Bosch Spark Plug Wires???

Anybody out there used them? What do you think. I just ordered set of Plat. plus 4's from a place in Ca., set of 8 for $39.92 and a wire set for 350 V-8 for $29.20. sounds like a good price on the wires but are they any good?

Johnny,

Have you ordered a set for your F150? I would like to get a description of them if and when you do. Warning: the 97 OEM wires have a design flaw which allows them to leak water in around the plug so changing them would be prudent. I do not know if this affects any other years or how extensive a problem it is but ford has redesigned the wires at some point to eliminate this. I am considering the Bosch so I am interested in the design of the boots for preventing this water penetration.

Picked them up at post office yesterday but will probably not have chance to install till this weekend, leave before daylight and get home after dark, can't wait till retirement. They are a silicon covered with copper wound around a kevlar center strand as best as I recall, I don't have them here to look at. Seems like the box said they would withstand temps up to 600 degrees F and stay flexible to -90 F, they come with lifetime guarantee. These are going into an old chev van so they don't have boots like the F-150's would but the boots and connectors appear to be very well made. Sorry about the wait but this is a custom van, I have to remove a console with TV and VCR to get to engine cowling, takes about 2 hours.

Check any plug wires you want to purchase. Check with an ohmmeter. Check the resistance. All OEM and most aftermarket wires have a large resistance. In other words the plugs do not receive all of the energy from the coil.

Check Jacobs company wires. I purchased theirs because there is zero - no resistance across their wires so that the plugs get the full charge from the coil. They recomend that you throw out the plat. plugs and use solid copper core plugs and gap them way way out much larger than normal for a big spark gap. Also, they guarantee no noise on the radio, and the wires are guaranteed for life with free replacement.

FYI: I received the following reply from Auto Medic Supply when I asked for a quote for both Motor Craft and Bosch plug wire sets:

"We do not carry a Motorcraft wire set for your F150. A Bosch wire set sells for
$66.73 including shipping to zip code 29631. The part number is 09740.

Sounds reasonable to me. Anyone have any input?
