I kind of wanted the keyless entry option for my '98, but the one I found didn't have that option. A few months ago, I had a Clifford alarm installed, that includes the keyless entry and a starter disable. The whole system is totally hidden, with the l.e.d. light being the only thing visible. I asked about the hacking into the electrical system, and they explained that they just tee into the lines, so really if you wanted to take it out, the install would be undetected. One problem that I encountered, was that the alarm kept "false alarming" every 45 minutes to 3 hours. They figured out the the computer would send an impulse to the dome light to check to see if the door was open (I don't know why), and then would set the alarm off. They had to do a diode bypass to solve the problem. It took 3 weeks to get it figured out, but it works great now.

Perhaps I should have been more specific. I have the keyless entry and the Ford 600+. It unlocks the doors and kills the starter etc.

I was wondering if there is another / better setup??

I know if someone really wants it there are ways. However, I don't want it to be easy!!

Thanks again,

Todd

Question Car Alarms??

Just curious......

Is there a car alarm out there that "plugs" into our F150's? Providing better protection and or more features??

Is the Ford's "State Of The Art Protection," really any good? It seems simple and I like the fact that is integrated into the truck. i.e. No hacked up wiring!

Thanks in advance for any and all comments.

Todd

By Ford's "State Of The Art Protection" I presume you are referring to the Securilock anti-theft ignition. I hope Ford's solution is a good one, but I went ahead and had a second alarm installed. I had the dealer install the Silencer onto my vehicle. Cost was $300 for the alarm, an extra $100 for me because I wanted it linked to my keyless entry. I've seen the unit under the dash. It looks like it compliments the vehicle well, I did not see any evidence that wire splicing was needed to get it installed, it looks like it plugs into existing harnesses. But then this is the type of install best left to the pros, in my opinion.

No one has installed/upgraded their alarm?

How about a way to wire my shell off of the factory alarm? There are no pins in the door to open and close a circuit?

Thanks,

Todd

Ford's Securilock is the best! I read somewhere the first year it was introduced in the Taurus in Europe not a single car was stolen by hotwiring...only those that were towed away. The key/computer has something like 7 quadrillion possible combinations of codes that have to match or all power is killed to the engine.

I put a CrimeGuard unit from Crutchfield in my '97. They have a wiring harness that plugs right into the Ford harness. It even has Ford stamped on connectors. I think I had to tap into two wires total. One for the parking lights and one for the door trigger switch.

The CrimeGuard unit has starter interrupt, current sensing, different shock sensors and the ability to lock and unlock the doors with an optional plug in harness. It also has two outputs for things like a remote car starter or window roll up. Hope this helps.

I also want to get a crimeguard from crutchfield for my truck, and was wondering if you were happy with it? I want to get that 745I system is it worth the money?

Thumbs up

I'm very pleased with the performance of the Crimeguard unit. I put in a 533i system. It went in really easy and works really well and the remote has what I think is incredible range. I didn't get the 735i unit because I didn't think that I needed the extra couple features.

I added a neat feature to my alarm. I used one of the extra relay outputs to power a pair of 12vdc deadbolts. Once the system is activated the doors will not open no matter what you do. It's just like the deadbolt on your house's front door but electrically actuated. works very well.

That's a pretty cool idea. Is there anyway to get the door open if the battery goes dead so that you can open the hood to put a new battery in or get a jump start?

yeah, I got a spare 12v, 7 amp/hr battery in the back behind the seat. It's only 6"x3"x3" so it fits real nice. It will allow the entire security system to run for a couple hours with out a main batery in the vehicle.

I have heard that aftermarket alarms with starter kill are incompatible with Ford's Securilock. Sounds like a few of you got it to work...any caveats we should know of?

Okay, for what it's worth, I just installed the Ford "plug-in" (NOT!) security system. I had the keyless entry and figured it would be easier. Well, it wasn't. You still have all the same setup as the standard type alarm (i.e. splicing and tapping wiring). The main benefit for me was that the system comes with a wiring book for the vehicle with the location and wire color for each. Now, I myself will never try this again. The wires are next to impossible to get to without hacking through countless bundles. Overall it wasn't impossible, but you get one hell of a stomach workout raising up off the floor to reach for tools and such. I saw one question referring to the door pins. The Ford system actually uses the 12V for the courtesy lights to activate the alarm. When you open the door, 12V goes to the lights, sets off the alarm. The other thing that I did like, is that it uses the factory key fob. If anyone is interested in installing one of these, e-mail me at teksec01@hotmail.com and I will be glad to give any advice I can.

P.S. System is about $150. Not the cheapest in the market...
