Red face Security System...I need HELP!!!!

Well, just got finished installing the VSS4 system in my 150. I will never, repeat, NEVER attempt this again. I figured a Ford system would be more of a 'custom' fit. Yea, right... Well, after spending countless hours beneath my dash, hunting through the millions of wires, it's done. However, this is what I need help with. The valet/status switch doesn't light. It works to place the system in valet or back to active mode, but no 'blinky' light. Does anyone know what each of the wires should have on them? There are three wires (blue, orange and green). I think I may have just blown the LED, but would like to be able to test them to see if they have voltage/ground/whatever on them first before getting a new one shipped to me. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

To test an LED is like testing a regular diode, it passes current only one way. To test the LED, you would require a DVOM (Digital Volt Ohmeter), that has a diode test mode. With the test leads, you test the diode with the one lead on one side and the other test lead on the other side, there should be a reading in the DVOM in one direction, But when you reverse the test leads it should have no reading. This will confirm that the LED is working properly. If it shows any reading in both directions or show open circuit then the LED is a gonner!!! Hope this helped you out but since there is no schematic available i can't tell which is the cathode or base on the LED. Good luck!!

Thumbs up

Thanks for the reply. Yea, I thought about testing it with my ohmeter, but have it all hooked up and working. Hate to mess with it too much. I am going to contact my dealer to just get a replacement switch. Hopefully it's a dead LED and not something else.
