Pyrometer placement

Favorite exhaust temperate sending unit location?

1999 F350 Turbo-Diesel.

1. Driver's side exhaust manifold (immediately after engine).
2. Just before the turbo.
3. Just after the turbo.

On supercharged ford engines modt tuners want the sender in the exust manifold or header in the front cylander on the drivers side about two inches from the head, this is one of the leanest cylenders on these engines, 2nd choise is third back on passenger side.

Just about anywhere before the turbo. After the turbo can be more than 100* cooler than in the exhaust manifolds.

Should have asked as part of the original question, but...

What temperatures can I expect before or after the turbo taking into account the fact that the post-turbo can vary by 100.

The guage I ended up with goes from 0-1600. Is 800 the norm?
