Which tachometer works well on 97 F150?
I just purchased a 97 4.6 F150 and it does not have a tachometer. What brand works best and where has anyone mounted theirs? This almost kept me from buying the truck but couldn't pass up a good deal.

97 4.6 F150, 88 5.0 Mustang 1/8 = 7.409 @ 93.72 mph

The tachometer wire is a white/pink-striped wire goes to pin 12 on the instrument cluster.
In the same wire harness there is a black wire I used for ground and a red/yellow-striped wire that is hot for run/start. I hooked the illumination wire to the dimmer wire that goes into the radio (I had it out at the same time). You can probable find a dimmer wire on the cluster. The hardest part of the whole process was figuring out how the light switch came out. You turn the **** to the lights on position and pull the **** off. Then reinstall the **** 180 degrees from normal. Then turn the ****. It releases the catches and the assembly comes out. The rest is just removing screws. The Haynes manual was not real clear, but it helped. I installed the tachometer just right of the steering column on the center trim panel that is held on by snaps. The Sunpro Mini Tachometer - CP7906 uses a bolt on the back to hold it in place. So I drilled a hole through the plastic and mounted it directly to the dash (with out using there mounting bracket). The tachometer is not obstructing any thing and I can see it just fine though the steering wheel.
Don’t forget to unhook the negative battery lead while working on the electrical system and so close to the air bag system.
I hope this helps.
Thanks Danny for the original help.
