Question How much HP do I have now??

I have a 98 F150,SC,4WD with the 4.6, K&N filter, Gibson Super Truck exhaust and SuperChip and I'm wondering what kind of HP do I have now?

Stock F150 220HP
K&N (maybe) 5HP
Gibson Exhaust(?) 10HP
SuperChip 26HP

Total 261HP

Does this sound right? Not sure of the exact numbers are for the filter and exhaust so I'm guessing here.

How do you think I would do against a 99 5.4 SC, 4WD? A guy at work has one and gonna ask him if he wants to see what it will do.

I say your close to that +/- a few either way and well if the 5.4 is bone stock you should win since your truck wieghs less.

Well, that hp is measured on rear wheel horsepower. Since your truck makes about 175hp stock at the rear wheel, it makes about 215hp at the rear wheel, which is about 5-10 more than the 99' 5.4. You may have a chance, but remember, nothing replace Cubic Inches.

We both have the same truck except his is 5.4 liter and has the 17 inch tires and it's a 99 model. Not sure what gear he has either.

These mods sure do make her get up and go!!

Dear 98XLT,

I'd say you're pretty accurate with those numbers, so that ought to be a fair estimate.

Isn't it true that the hp increase from the chip is not an increase in PEAK hp, but rather an increase at a lower rpm? I saw the dyno numbers from a V8 Explorer in SuperFord and there was a large increase in hp and torque at lower rpm's (like around 2000-2500) with the chip, but the peak hp difference was only like 5-10hp. This was about a year ago.
