Installed my MAC intake today

I looked and looked at all the available intakes for my generation F150, and just couldn't see anything that would distinguish most of them from one another. A bigass pipe and a bigass filter didn't, to me, make $100 more over a MAC worth paying to me, so I got it. It was waiting for me when I got home from work yesterday and I installed it today. The build quality's really nice, and it went together really easily.

Installation was really, really easy, and it sounds cool and loud when I roll into the throttle. Figure if I get no more out of it than that I'll be happy enough with my purchase; but I live in really hilly country and it really seems like the truck doesn't have to grunt and fight as much pulling up hils. The truck seems like it's more eager to accelerate. I'll know if I get any better gas mileage here after I've gone through a couple tanks, but I'm not really worried about it.

The only thing that struck me as odd is that a few times on the drive out today, the intake made a noise very much like somebody blowing across the top of a 2 liter bottle. Truck runs fine and all that, the idle settled down once the computer realized that nothing was wrong, and I checked all the vacuum connections and everything's fine, so I guess the noise is from the throttle plate being cracked open just a tiny little bit, because when I blip the throttle the noise stops.

Now I'm throwing a friggin check engine light. When I use my dad's Superchips tuner it gives codes for a MAF signal problem, lean bank 1, and lean bank 2. When I clear the codes the lean bank codes go away and the MAF signal problem stays until I take the connector off the MAF and push it back on. Problem is that when I drive it the connector apparently comes loose again, because when I repeat the connector jiggling it goes away again. I cannot get this connector to stay tight.

Damnit.

Yup. Took one tonight after I rechecked all the connections.

Anyway, it seems like it's definitely either a dirty MAF or the fact that the connector doesn't wanna stay tight. Every time it threw codes, I could with no effort at all disconnect the MAF sensor, it was like it wasn't even really connected. Push it back in really hard and the CEL would go away until the next time.

I'm thinking of just zip-tying the sucker together so it won't come loose and seeing how that works.

It's probably worth a try. You could atleast try that for a couple days and see if that fixes the problem, if so..you can search for a better more permanent fix.

Also, the MAF could probably use a could cleaning anyway.

Good Luck

MAF sensor and heating element probably could use a good cleaning. I looked it over really closely as I installed the intake, but that doesn't mean that some gunk from the filter being packaged up and oily before it was sold didn't dirty up the elements.

In any event, me whacking the **** out of the sensor connector when I reconnected it yesterday seems to've fixed whatever was wrong. Truck ran like a top and threw no codes today.

I really think this intake did make a difference, silly as it may seem. I'm used to imports and how hard it is to squeeze any power out of the engines without some sort of forced induction, and it's kinda wild that an intake would make a noticeable difference.

Anyway, I'll keep you posted.
