Question Rooltop Bed Covers

Christmas is coming and I don't have anything for my truck. I'm under incredible pressure to get just the right gift.

So I'm thinking about a rolltop bed cover. I like the idea of being able to secure the bed and not have to remove the top in order to carry anything tall.

I've looked at Pace Edwards (Bedlocker and JackRabbit) and then at Peragon. I really do need input from folks other than the marketing departments of these companies.

Are there other brands available? Any of you guys care to applaud or complain about your rolltop? Are there other options available that will meet my needs?

Thanks. I appreciate your spending the time to respond. If you have pics, please include them or give me a link.

Dave...

I am leaning towards the Retrax. Everything I have read is positive. I also like the fact that if I go antiqueing and find something large I don't have to worry about the hard cover. But that doesn't happen very often which leads me to the Undercover. I am very impressed with it, light weight secure. So I guess I will have to wait a while longer to make a decision.

Retrax
Roll-N-Lock
Google is your friend. You can also browse through this forum and find a few threads on rolling bed covers. I've been considering one for a couple months now, haven't quite commited to laying out the $$$$ yet.

I went with the Roll-N-Lock cover and I like it. It takes up some room at the cab on my short bed about 10 inchs out of 64 inchs, but it's worth it. I have the Bed Extender that came with the truck to make up for the lost space if I need to haul something longer. I can throw stuff the in back and not have too tie anything down, all so if I have something long in the bed laying down out the back, you just roll the cover over it to keep the air from picking it up going down the road.I was told by a parts dealer that it was the best, he had some other brand that was trouble and stopped dealing with them.I use Rag-top brand to keep the cover looking good and that's what Roll-N Lock sends with the cover to start you off with to clean and shine the top. I had it put on about 4 months back and time will tell if I picked the right cover.

Thanks, guys...

I'll start the comparison between Pace Edwards and ReTrax today. Maybe Santa can get it delivered in time for Christmas. I'm sure my truck will be happy knowing it has something under the tree.

I Put a Pace Edwards on my wife's 97 F-150 in 98. At that time I don't think there were as many choices as their is now. My decision was made by what I thought looked the best. In 02 I bought another Pace Edwards for my 02 F-150. Haven't had any problems with either. We live in Montana and we get some pretty severe weather here. They have held up very well and a coat of armoral and they look like new. Hope this helps

1 card short how are they if you get a couple of inchs of snow on them in freezing weather? Can you clean off the snow and still roll it down or would you have to dethaw it first.

Thanks

Well, after my typical **** approach of making a spreadsheet of covers, sources, shipping costs, rebates, phases of the moon, etc. I ran across a Pace-Edwards RollTop on ebay for $613 including shipping. For a SuperCrew, that's a big savings. Assuming the seller doesn't change his mind, I hope to have that puppy installed in a few weeks. I'll add pics to the gallery when I'm done...

Not sure it is the same type of roll top you are looking for, but I am on my second F150 SCrew which is a new 2004 and have used Truxedo brand roll up soft covers. The new one I got has been even better than the first one was. The rails that mount to your bed are slanted so it does not stand up as high. You can install in about 15 minutes from start to finish. Open the tailgate, pull a lever and you release it. Roll it up and fasten the straps to hold in place. When done, unfasten the straps and roll back. Lock down and you are secure as long as you lock the tailgate. I paid around $289 for mine. You can also get them in colors to match your truck. My brother installed one on his 2003 King Ranch SuperCab as well after seeing mine.

Definately try the Retrax. Had a pace roll top on my wifes truck. Always sticking and we always had to use a key to open. If ishe wanted to open the cover half way, she had to climb up into the bed. Retrax will hold more weight, easier to open and use and does not leak like her old Pace Edwards. Paid $850.00 delivered from truck gadgets.com Got here in three days and I installed it in less than 2 hours. Got a little help from Ed at truck gadgets. He also sells dynolock electric tailgate locks. He threw in the upgraded high security actuator for free.

I have a Roll N' Lock bed cover and like it alot. Easy to install and easy to use. Takes up very little space.

Has multiple stopping points. Good clean, low profile look too

Have had it on now for 6 months with no problems. Paid around $750 if I am remembering right

I was offered from Retrax for my 04 free shipping free cargo light and a price of 889. Is this a good deal? Thinking of ordering today.
