efan worry

i put troyer efans on my '03 about 2 months ago. i have 0 problems(knock on wood). heres where i have a problem. i didnt adjust my probe, i didnt touch it, i just left it alone and watched my temp gauge when i get my truck hell, and seen if it raised, and it actually didnt move from where it used to be when the thermostat opened. so i dont really know what temps my fans kick on! THAT MIGHT BE A PROBLEM. if i was to do the cooking thermo test all i have to do is idle truck untill the fan kicks on and read the numbers???sounds easy enough.

now i read somewhere i should get fuses or something for the controllers, i know zip about wiring(friend did the wiriing). i need to protect those controllerts from blowing up right?? all this is coming b/c im about to put on undrive pulleys and im sweatin that they might off balance something.

thanx to anyone with info

From reading past threads your dash will do a redout of temperature in the test mode. Since I have a 97 I don't have that so you will have to do a search for how to get into test mode. It is something like pushing the trip button when turning on e the key. I am sure someone here can post the instructions for you.

I have the dual 16" fans from Troyer for my '97. You can either use a scan tool in the OBD-II port to read your temp or use an infrared thermometer. The instruction manual will tell you how to read them and adjust your temperature.

You want to set them correctly to keep your engine at optimal temperature for best performance and longevity. Your water temp gage on your dash is, shall we say, less than accurate.

I bought a Scanguage from www.scanguage.com

It plugs in to the OBD II port and will read temp, volts, mpg, rpm's, mph, trip mpg, mph, and will also read check engine light codes. It can be left plugged in all the time. It turns it self off after the key is off for about 10-20 seconds.
Cost was $99.

Temp Check

To check your engine temperature from the on board computer you press and hold the odometer button about 5 secs then turn the key to the on position, which is as far as it will go without starting the truck, then the odometer will come on. Keep the button pressed the hold time and it odometer will read "test". You then scroll through the the menu of readings to the degc reading. It will be degC069 for example. The reading is in Celsius so you will need to convert the reading to Farenheit. 94 degrees Celsuis is is equal to 201 degrees Farenheit. There are sites online to do the conversions.
