Air Intake

Alright guys/gals, I have read and read and read about air intakes and I get opinions from "yes, do it" to "no, don't". I live on a dirt road and go off road frequently. I have about decided it's not worth the expense and could damage my motor with increased dust/dirt getting through to the motor. I wanted to give someone the opportunity to change my mind or tell me differently.

I don't see the difference myself, you still have a filter on the intake, just less plastic tubing. The air will be coming from the engine compartment instead of the wheel well which will probably have quite abit of contamination in it if your off road. This is assuming a quality filter like a K&N. I wouldn't trust a C2FPIK in dusty conditions.

Does anyone know if you can get an E-Bay FIPK and put a standard K&N on it? For the low prices $49.00, it seems that the filters would be the weak point. The tube is hard to screw up.
