Best Air Intake System
k&n fipk gen 2
i have the K&N FIPK Generation 2 on my 4.6L 2000 expy. if i remember correctly, the instructions say something about in some "isolated instances" some 4.6L engines will whistle at idle. it said to take out the PCV valve & just have a hose instead of the valve. i dont know if this would hurt anything(not having a PCV valve), anybody know? BTW... Advance Auto Parts sold me mine for $228+tax.
someone did dyno test on several different intakes...the most that you gain i think is around 7 rwhp. At $200 or more, I do not think these are worth the money. That is $28 or more per hp...pull the silencer, it is free...cost nothing. If I gain only 2 hp, it is still free. Then, take a 3 inch plastic pipe, stick it on the end of your air box, replacing the factory piece...not free, but realllllll cheap...that is not enough? cut the end of your air box off, cost?? freeeeeee...
want more power? buy a nitrous system, not free, but gobs of power only when you need it.

Air intakes
Just to put my 2 cents in. I bought and installed the Roush Performance Cold Air Intake for $150 delivered. This is a great system if you already have a K&N type filter in the original air box and you still want to use it. The Roush kit uses the original air box but everything else on the intake is changed. If I remember correctly the website is www.roushperf.com, look at the Parts and Crate Engines link.

Sorry for not responding for a few weeks. The wife and I just had twin boys. Anyway, someone asked about the whistling noise with the K&N. I did not notice a whistle, but I definately noticed a difference in sound - even at idle - more of a low pitched sucking noise. The sound is the rush of more air to the engine. The filter sucks more air and the tube resonates that air rush. It is not loud, and you get used to it quickly. I had no problems and intend to get one for my newer truck. Unfortunately, the unit I have is not compatable.

I installed a f&k K&N on my 2003 screw, but i did it just 4 the niose. I already had a drop in filter, but that just wasn't going to cut it. No REAL noticable increases in HP or response. I was dissapointed about the noise level though, not loud enough. My buddies 03' hemi is extremely loud. And thats all I have to say about that!
K&N FIPK Gen II
I just recently added a K&N FIPK Gen II and noticed imediatley the power gains and muscle sound. I was very pleased in that regard.....but as i was installing it in realized that i could probably fab one myself for way under 1/3 the cost. I guess you just pay for the name if you want to.
The item I really liked and is worth the money is my Superchip Programmer. I love it. I can easily re-program it back to stock if I am taking it to the dealer for work and can change to a towing performance program if i intend to tow. It also has a 87 octane program if you are in a bind and need to save money on gas. Just Remember to take out the fuel system fuse before programming or it WILL cause problems!
Right now i just need to find a way to fab a open box around the K&N so i can utilize my Ram Air hood.

I have the K&N FIPK too. I got it at Advance for around 220. I love the way it sounds (even with the stock exhaust) and I can notice a difference in response, though HP I would be speculating about.
well I got the cheap chineese version, and it looks almost like a AF1, even had someone think it was a AF1. Anywho, I paid a total of $83 for mine, and it works just as fine. All you have to do is just get a aftermarket K&N and you're set
True Flow Intake
.........anyone tried the TRUE FLOW intake yet. it uses the stock airbox with a replacement filter and intake tube that inserts into the stock fender well location. I put one on my 5.4 extended cab. The entire system is closed so you don't get the outside dirt sticking to an exposed filter.
