how do you carry your fire extinguisher?

if anyone can help i would appreciate it.

i have carried a fire extinguisher for the past few years in my truck. towards the beginning of this summer i used it when someone pulled into my parking lot at work and had flames shooting out from under their hood (was a mustang).

got the fire out, (didnt even get a thank you), but now to my problem.

i purchased a new extinguisher, specified as 'good for boats' so i'm thinking its also good for a truck. problem is i think its longer & skinnier than my last one. i have been keeping it under the rear seat, but it slides all over the place. i have the 60/40 bench seat in the front with the ex cab, and i am just wondering where other people have mounted their extinguisher, or if there is one made specifically to put in a truck like this? want to mount it somehow so it can be 'quick released' without the use of tools.

i have searched on the threads here and didnt see anything that looked too promising. anyone done anything clever, or know of a product made for this application?

Hi

I wanted mine mounted where i could easily get it...not where it looked the best etc. so.....

On my 99 SC...my "ABC" ext. had a quick release mounting bracket. I mounted that to the vertical trim between seat edge/door in rear..left side.

So...out drivers door..open back door..its right there. Easy. It's possible it might interfer w/someone sitting there...but hasn't been a problem for me.

Good luck...OT

btw...you probably know...ext. are rated for different type fires.

old timer,

thanks, but i am a little foggy on where you have it.

i have the super cab also. if i understand correctly, you have it mounted to the half door on the rear drivers side. if so, i would think the repeated opening & closing of that door might not be a pretty thing if the extinguisher bracket is mounted to the plastic on the door.

did you just drill a few holes through the plastic pocket on the door and mount the bracket?

the location sounds great, and i dont think the space thing would be an issue for me either.

thanks, i would like to know if thats how you installed the bracket. i am a little concerned there cause i do use that rear door daily and wonder if the repeated shutting of it would eventually crack the plastic. again, thanks.

I have mine mounted on the trans hump in front of the front bench seat. Fits great and is in arms length. Sorry no pics though.

raul, i may have seen some pictures of that on some, ahem..., other website...

anyway, first time ford, my truck is the sc, but a 99, and the rail on the back seat of my truck does not look like yours at all.

what i ended up doing was making a 1/4 slit in the metal rear seat bracket. my extinguisher is a first alert, medium sized unit (i'm not bragging, really) and it looks much longer and skinner than the one in your picture. i took a strap from my sons old booster seat and ran it through the slit and around the extinguisher.

about 4 inches or so of the extinguisher is exposed on the floor area, and it is running from front to back. the top of the unit is resting on the lip under the seat & against the rear cab wall.

i will try and take a picture and post it (first time ever) after the batteries charge for the camera.

thanks to everyone for all the suggestions, and first time ford, thanks for the pictures cause you got me going in the right direction.

Guess I should have mentioned this in the first post...I've got a four inch "seat lift" on the rear seat to make room for a sub box (and let my four year old son see a little better) so I may have a little more room and it may look a little different. It works out OK back there and hopefully all I'll ever use it for is looks...

Looks good to me!!!

Hopefully, you'll never have to use it...unless there's a cheby burning in the lane next to you (or behind you)...

Either way, I'd have to think about it for a while...after all, the extinguisher's worth at least $15...

decisions, decisions, decisions....
