Canoe Rack
Canoe Rack
I'm looking for a roof rack or rack for the bed so I can carry my canoe. There won't be any room in the bed since I will be carrying 2 dirt bikes too.
Has anyone seen such a thing?

Canoe Rack
Check out the Rack Warehouse.

They have a pretty extensive lineup of racks from various manufacturers.
The Mirage is a really neat concept. A slotted rail mounts on top of each bed cap. The four vertical supports slide into this track, and lock in place. Then four horizontal members connect the four uprights. It breaks down and stores behind the seat when not in use.
It cost only $299, and it's rated for 300 lbs., but do some research to determine if it's right for you.
Some people are very happy with them, while others say they rattle around so much they thought their canoe might fall off.
I think it might work for ocassional shorter trips with lighter loads. but if you carry two boats, or use it double duty for building materials, etc. it might not be the best choice.
That said, I'm STILL tempted to buy one.
Instead I'm going big time and getting the Trac Rack system.. another tracked system with moveable uprights, but rated at up to 1,000 lbs in some configurations.
You may have seen them on TV. Trac Rac supplied the custom racks on the beach patrol trucks used in that TV series.
I have the Thule rack on my F-150 and it works really well. I have a canoe and mountain bike that I carry on the rack simultaneously and have never had a problem. I believe the rack can hold up to 500lbs. I had a Yakima on my last Ranger and wasn't impressed. Hope it helps.

i'm really happy with the yakima drydock!
As j 150 mentioned previously, the Yakima Drydock is absolutely great for carrying canoes. I researched the options extensively and decided the best system would be a cab roof rack/hitch combination. The Yakima system was a good price and well reviewed. I use a Q Tower single bar rack on my cab roof and the Drydock in the rear hitch. the canoe then rides super solid!!! After digging around I got mine in the canoe rack - kayak racks section of this site. You won't be disappointed with this setup
Try the Louisville Lugger. Its totally collapasable and stores in a bag that can fit under the seat in a supercab. It can hold up to 750 pounds and can fit a number of different trucks. I hauled a kayak all the way from Alabama to Connecticut at interstate speeds with no problem. Great product. You can check it out at www.louisvillelugger.com. I bought mine through Northern Tool. If you want pics I can post them later.
