More intake talk

'03 F150 XLT Supercab SB. 4.6 V8.
Ive installed a Flowmaster dual outlet muffler with twin exhaust exits mounted in the stock location behind r/r wheel with chrome tips. K&N drop in filter and today i replaced the very small inlet hose from the fender to the airbox with an 8 inch section of 3.5" I.D. flexy hose from a wholesale rubber and hose place. Who knows if any gains are to be had, but im old school and believe there HAS to be something to gain by increasing breathing capibilities both in and out. The replacement stainless type intakes are afforadable but the stock one looks ample aft of the filter. Intake honk is louder so more air is coming in. The wire reinforced flexy hose "screwed" right into the existing fender opening and clamped nicely to the outside of the stock airbox inlet. Looks factory. Time will tell.

I also have completed some mods on my "00. I have had a drop in K&N for about 2 years and never really noticed any gains in power or mpg. The other night, I pulled off the snorkel restrictor from the fender well and saw that the hole was only 2" and the fender hole was 3.5". I left it that way for a day and could really feel a difference .

The next night I went ahead and removed the air silencer from the intake - what a pain in the a$$. I could tell a difference BIG TIME. It makes me wonder what a real FIPK would do, but for now I don't want to spend cash for it beacause 2 weeks ago I got the Magnaflow 15609. That is very cool.

First road trip report. Went to Squaw Valley near Tahoe Nv. On the return trip using gasahol, the first hundred miles are mountain passes, out of overdrive. the remaining time was boring freeway at 65-70 mph. A true 20 mpg. I think thats pretty good. The wifes '98 Crown Vic gets 21 and change on freeway trips all stock.
The '97 F150 V6 we had didnt get nearly that good on the freeway but it was on our Calif. MTBE gas.
