Going to be moving up there soon, know that I'll need an engine block heater, anything else? Will be in the Anchorage area.

Instead of a battery blanket I installed a trickle charger and had it hardwired to the battery and into the same multiplug as my oilpan and block heater. This way I know there's 14volts no matter how cold it is, as long as its plugged in. Been down to -31 and started without a problem.

Yeah I'll probably install myself, the dealers here in Colorado don't stock them so I have to special order. Another question, I have a vinyl tonno cover, I bet at -20 that thing will crack, or will it?

no it should be fine just dont try to roll it at -20. I believe if it were me id go to your local napa store and get a zero start block heater part# 3100040 and a 75 watt oil pan heater a 75 watt battery pad and a 3 way plug, also have duct tape zip ties and some high temp red sealer. Block heater goes in rear hole on driver side and you position the loop on the heater to 12 o clock also note do not grease the o ring just wet it with anti freeze to help it go in then get you some pure 100 percent anti freeze and mix it 60% anti to 40% water you will need 2 gallon start the truck after you have it installed and anti freeze in. Adjust your heater to max and turn it to full power defrost this will allow your thermostat to open and burp your system. now install your oil pan heater with red high temp gasket sealer and duck tape in to place this will allow it to hold until it drys now install your block plug wire and rout them together to the passenger front corner this is where you will place your three way. now install battery pad and feed wire down, go back under and plug in wires and route your plug in out the front by the tow hook. Note that when you are removing your block plug be sure to use a flat screw driver and only drive one side inward this will allow it to spin sideways and after fluid has drained you can now take pliers and pull the plug out do not let it fall in the block its a b to get out. If you would like pictures or even a how to video on this i will be post one soon. Thanks and any ? fell free to call me at 907-750-9949

Will be up there as soon as my wifes company that she works for gives her the green light to work from home up there. I'm self-employed sp we really need her health insurance and her good wages. She graduated out of Anchorage many years ago and we have 5 acres near Soldotna that we plan to build on.
Was -16 here about 2 weeks ago and its snowing like hell now.

It's a tricky time of year to drive, but I drove here in the fall and it was the most amazing thing I've experienced. good luck on the trip.
