Reverse Camera wiring

I am installing a reverse camera and I have a simple, I hope, wiring question. I have seen on this and other forums, guys doing the same thing and they have a hard time trying to locate the reverse wire, both color and location, in the cab to wire to their HU reverse wire.

So this is my question - you have to wire the power for the camera to the reverse wire at the back of your truck, be it the reverse light itself or the reverse wire on the trailer harness. Why can't you at the same time attach another wire and then run it along with the RCA cable for the camera to the front of the truck. Am I missing something in this thinking? Thanks

You just tie in at the shifter on the back up light switch. No need to run a wire to the back of the truck.

But would the way I mentioned work? Is there a technical reason I shouldn't do it this way. I guess my thinking is that I have to splice in to a wire and this way I am only splicing once instead of twice.

You can do it your way, but there is no technical reason too.

One reason the OP may want to take his own advice: If you want to be able to view the rear camera "on demand" you will want to run the wire to an ignition source so the camera has power when the truck is on, not just reverse.
