Cool Some info on Navigation updates, and a question?

I purchased the navigation map update from Navteq for my 2011 F150. It was about $200.00. I got the DVD set a few days ago and I'm going to attempt the install today. I had to get some information about my current nav. system from the info screen on the truck. Then go to the Navteq website and follow the prompts to see if I needed an update. Which of course I did. I had to get the application number and I think the "SW" number? Once I placed the order I got an "Activation" code number that I will have to enter when I do the updates. It came as a four DVD set. The first set of two disks are software application updates. The first DVD of the second set is a Navigation map update, and the second DVD of the second set continues the map update + Gracenote update. A quick read of the directions claim that the software updates will take approx. 50 minutes, and the truck needs to be running. The Navigation and Gracenote updates on the second set of DVD's will take about three (3) hours to complete, but at certain intervals I am allowed to turn the truck off while it updates. I was at the dealership yesterday for an oil change and I was thumbing thru the new F150 brochure. The graphics and icons are different on the 2013's nav. system. They are really sharp. I'm wondering if there will be any change to graphics when I do the updates? We'll see. So, my question is ........Has someone updated thier navigation system recently? Did it go pretty smooth? Any hiccups? If I do decide to do the updates today, I will post up what I did, how I did it, how it worked, any problems , and how easy/difficult it was to do. And the Time frame

Curious if you have a follow up to some of these items? Most notably, did the graphics or interface change at all? I think I'm on v4.1x and the new version is 5.1x. Thanks in advance.

Cool

Been busy with other stuff. A few weeks ago I was at the store running errands. It was a day when a cold front came thru, temp. dropped real fast and the wind kicked up. I opened the door to get out and the wind yanked the door out of my hand. Got yanked back towards the front fender. Damaged the front door edge at the bottom hinge, and must of either damaged the door or hinge because the door is misaligned and I have to slam it shut. Insurance is covering it under comp. Took it in last monday and got a rental. Was suppose to be done friday. They called late and said it was ready. Got there with 15 mins to spare. Manager had already left. A quick check in the parking lot, in the cold and dark, while they were all leaving, and the job su*ked. Door still not closing right, the paint repair looks like crap and there is compound dust and residue everywheres. So, gonna take it back in the morning. I've had problems with this body shop (the dealerships from where I bought it) before with poor work on my truck from a different mishap. Still didn't get it right after two attempts. I'm gonna stop at the dealership to complain to the owner before I take it back to his body shop. Hopefully I'll be able to do the update after I get her back....

Cool

I did the update, finally . First I had to do the software update, which consisted of the first two DVD's. The truck needed to be on and running the entire time for this phase. Disc #1 was suppose to take about 25 mins.. Mine was done in about 20 mins.. In the side notes it says that when Disc #1 is done, I was suppose to see either a "please insert second disk" message, or if it just went to the Home screen, then Disc #2 was not needed. That was my case. Next I needed to verify the update on the information screen. The instruction booklet had a list of about eight "SW" serial numbers (like EU3485660), one of which I needed to have showing. And I did. Next it was the Navigation and Gracenote update. First was Disc #1 of the second set of DVD's. This disc was suppose to take approx. two hours, and it did. The instructions stated that after 5% has downloaded, it was safe to turn the truck off. After inserting Disc #1, I was prompted to enter an activation code I recieved with my purchase. Once that was done, it started the update. Just to be safe, at 7% downloaded (which was about 10 mins.) I shut the truck off and came inside. After two hours I went out and started the truck. Everything came on. After a few moments there was a message on the screen to eject Disc#1 and install Disc #2. A message in the instructions says it will take approx. one hour for Disc #2, and after 55% has installed it would be safe to turn the truck off. After installing the second disk I waited for 57% and went back inside. After about 50 mins. I went out and started the truck. It still had about 10% to go and took another 10 mins. So it was the hour it stated. After ejecting Disc #2 you need to verify that you have succesfully updated the system, again by going to the information screen. My original version was 3.1, this update was ver.5.1. At this point total download time was about 3hrs. 20mins.. According to the instructions, I needed to reinstall Disc #2. A screen comes up asking you to choose either navigation or "Gracenote Only". After selecting Gracenote only, you check the version against what you have (it's there on the screen). Mine had updated already on its own, so I just cancelled it out, and I was done. I'm a little fuzzy on the Gracenote instructions because I just pretty much breezed through that when I saw it had already installed. OK, Now I know you're wondering, What Changed? Nothing as far as the graphics, or the look of the screen has changed. I haven't used the Nav. yet so unable to say there until I do. and I really don't know what it does to the music info.. Maybe update artists, albums, or something on the satellite etc.. So there you have it. Was it worth it? I can't say. Time will tell................

Updates to Gracenote

I need to check that additional step myself for Gracenote because on Sirius, I no longer get individual graphics for the channel names like Pulse, Blend, etc. This is a step back if they no longer include these. Will let you all know once I try the Gracenote update separately. Well, I tried to update the Gracenote and it stated that I had the newer version already. Maybe Gracenote only handles CD graphics/title updates only and the actual System update disks do the Sirius changes. Anyone know?
