Laptop Nav System
Laptop Nav System
If you already have a laptop with Bluetooth, this makes a killer Nav system:
1) GPS/Map software from DeLorme:

2) Bluetooth GPS receiver:

Here are some screen images taken from a plane on a Hawaii trip:

And for about $100, you will have more capabilities than the high $$ Garmin, or Magellan GPS units.

This Qstarz utility shows the satellite data, position, and signal strength (in db, bar graph). This was run indoors, which is a great test for the GPS receiver sensitivity:

I dunno... for me I think I'm going to combo up a Google Nexus 7 tablet ($199) and my smartphone (for the cellular data WAN connection). I'll cache all the maps for my hunting areas where there is little to no cell data connection. Otherwise the tablet will Wifi to the smartphone hotspot which lets Google Maps update with alot of local info and traffic. Even though the Google Terrain mode is not very exciting at all.
I'l mount the tablet with a Ram Mount and I'll have nice touchscreen access to everything I have on my Android Smartphone... maps, web, mail, etc...
