2006 to 2008 Nav HU swap
Hey F150online,I was wondering if anyone has done a basic radio swap to the factory nav head unit,if you did how was the install, was it plug and play?did the nav work after install or did you have to have the unit reprogrammed for your truck?I have a pioneer head unit that's navless, and was thinking of putting a stock nav unit from a 2008 F150,If I buy the unit would I have to have it installed in my truck then programmed?or have the unit programmed then installed in my truck?,and since I have the an aftermarket harness with the pioneer head unit will the harness have to be removed along with the pioneer head unit?
I want navigation in my truck and I figured factory nav would be best,I like the way the stock nav head unit looks in the truck,I've never like the Garmin units or Tom toms,so any help you guys could give would be greatly appreciated!
well I did some more digging around and for those interested in doing this you, need the stock nav head unit, gps antenna and gps mapping software.
So I will just look into getting a aftermarket head unit with decent Nav functions

I have an 06 FX4 and my Ford Nav unit came out of an 08 Ford Edge. I found this out when I tried getting a new Nav CD and then they told me it was going to be $300 for the new disc. Hell no. You would need to run the antenna and then have it reprogrammed and it just seems like a pain to do. Then again, I bought my truck with the unit already installed so I shouldnt say anything about it. I just know I have added subs and a FRD04 unit for my MP3 player and it all works. I love the factory look that it gives.

I did this on my 2008. It needed to be reprogrammed to my VIN in order to work properly (backlighting turning on when my headlights turned on, no error message on startup, etc.). The programming was $110 including return shipping. I shipped it out and had it back within about 3 days.
Once programmed, I had to install the GPS antenna (which is simple) and then it was completely plug and play.

Yea you should be fine with the Nav unit from the Edge but you wont be able to hook up a reverse camera. You can hook up reverse sensors but not to the headunit. A reverse camera is only with the aftermarket stuff.

just didn't know if there was a way to do it around the lockpick...
