OEM Mirror harness for camera, where is it???

Have a 2011 F250 Lariat 4x4 - came with the factory tailgate camera and mini screen in the rear view mirror. So I swapped out the basic Audiophile unit with an OEM navigation touchscreen unit (BC3T) and well, need some help on locating the camera signal and/or plug in the cab so I can route up to the navigation screen. With my purchase I was provided a video pigtail with the male to female plugs which will plug into the rear of the head unit along with an extra RCA jack, but since this is the OEM to OEM, shouldn't need the RCA at this point and not to mention Ford used their plugs instead of making it easy and using RCA's for the video feed.

Earlier today I called United and wouldn't you know it, for "liability purposes" the only bit of information they will not release is the location for the camera to mirror plug in the cab so I could swap or move. Really gotta love what the legal system and frivolous lawsuits have done to this country.

Can anyone tell me where the factory plug for a 2011 F250 rear view display is located so I can move/splice to view on the larger screen? Additionally, if it is not plug/play, what wires need to be spliced.

Again this is for a SuperDuty and... Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the replies....

Well, I figured I would report back here that I found the harness, tapped into it and now have dual display ability on my 2011 F-250 that I upgraded the audiophile head unit to a navigation head unit .

Now, if you decide to follow or use any of the information below I am not responsible. Bottom line, you use this information and mess up your video, vehicle, house, boat, etc.. and back over/into/under something or someone, man up - it's your fault, not mine...

The wiring harness on my truck for the rear view mirror display ran down the passenger side pillar and was mounted to the fender wall with one of those pine tree looking plastic push pins, kind of up and behind the big module with multiple harnesses on the side kick panel. The best way to get to is to actually remove the glove box and reach back through the opening. Reach back and towards the fender (to the right) and you will likely put your hand on or very near it... Removing the kick panel trim is required too and you will utlimately pull the harness down towards the floor, not through the glove box since there is limited space.

Know, you will know you have the right plug because it has one of those red safety clips preventing compression of the piece to release, remove that, then it can be separated/disconnect.

The wires were White with green stripe (+ positive) and Brown with violet stripe (- negative)...

Cut one end off a male-to-male RCA cable and connected the wires (center wire is positive on the RCA) and then plugged the other end with the male RCA connector into the female RCA connector from the head unit I got with my navigation unit.

And there you have it, dual display ability on the mirror and the navigation head unit.

Hope this helps anyone else

Would it be safe to assume this is the same for a 2010 f150?

Have a 2011 F250 with cam in tailgate, I have cut the plug and added a weather prof plug between the cam and the female in order to plug secound cam in, works great as long as in reverase. Was wondering if anyone knows where the lead to activate the nav system to turn on the cam. I know it has to do with going to reverase but wanted to tie into it with switch so I can turn on cam while driveing. Also is it 12volt input or ground that actives the nav screen? Thanks roger, you can also email me at rogerleonforbes@embarqmail.com Thanks

Reelwork -- extremely hard to find and useful information. Thank you for posting this. I am installing a new head unit in my 2011 FX2 F150 and have been looking for *specific* information on how to redirect the rear camera video signal from the rear view to the new head unit video input.

You instructions are pretty clear however I do have two questions:

1.) The connector you found sounds like it is directly above the Body Control Module (BCM), AKA, the main cabin fuse box, under the passenger kick panel? You said it was a locking push type connector with a red safety clip?

2.) Assume you cut the Ford connector off and soldered on a wire terminating to a male RCA connector. Just to verify, that would be: center pin on RCA is white with green stripe (+ positive) and shield/outer conducter on RCA brown with violet stripe (- negative).

Again, appreciate the info. When I get finished with this Alpine replacement of the factory Ford SYNC/Sony system, I will write up a similar post to try and help others. Vehicle specific information such as this is very difficult to find online.

I have a 2012 coming but just received the factory manual. I haven't had much of a chance to read up on it but if you want to attempt a always on rear view camera I could suggest this. Since you already have the video feeds all you need is the reverse feed. I read here that the video feeds were located in the P/S kick panel. To be on the safe side according to the wiring diagram you want to get the reverse feed from the rear view mirror! I know you don't like hearing that but it isn't just a matter of splicing into the reverse wire. If you do that you could do to things,,, wipe out your BCM and if not your reverse lights would always be on. So you go to the closest source which is the mirror and look for a BU/WH wire. That is the feed to the reverse which tells the rearview to come on. Now you have to cut that wire, once you do this do a test,, get out your test light and probe the cut wire to the harness and not to the rear view. start your truck and put it in reverse. Now first the rear view should not come on and second you should see power to the harness side. If you do you now have the reverse wire, so move it to park or any other gear and the power should be gone! Of course you will have to do this first! Go to radio shack and get a diode... so you know a diode allows power to travel in one direction only! Ok now you have to splice a wire to the rear view side and run that down the post into the glove box area. That will be your trigger wire. with that done first check the diode direction, usually they have a arrow pointing to the direction power will travel but this is simple to check to make sure you have it in the right direction. Put your truck in reverse and touch one side of the diode to the harness side wire and the other to your test light. If the test light comes on then it is in the right direction, if not, reverse the leads of the diode and check it again,, this time it will light. Now soldier the diode lead to the harness side,, check it again to make sure it lights then soldier the other end to your spliced wire and the rear view lead. it is always a good idea to use shrink wrap but make sure there are no bare wires showing. it is ok to wrap the diode also. Now do a test,,, If you take the splice wire you lead down to the glove box area, find a power source and connect it,,, the truck will have to be running. once you touch the wire to the power source the rear view should come on! Now have somebody look at your reverse lights! They will not be on! Now you have a trigger wire that you do the following to... get a rocker or whatever kind of switch you want to use to turn power to the rear view. you will have two connectors or terminals,, one goes to power source the other goes to the end of the splice wire. If you hit the switch you will have rear view camera,, but now for the Navigation you still have to activate... splice another wire to your splice wire on the switch and lead that to the Navigation trigger wire..... Guess what,,, you got it!! Now to test,,, truck running but in park,,, hit the switch,,, camera on both Navigation and rear view but no reverse lights are on! Cool,,,, now turn off the switch,,, shift into reverse,,,,, guess what? camera on Navigation and rear view and reverse lights are on.... shift out of reverse and all is off as normal!!
