I need rear view camera help ASAP!!!

Tried to install my ebay license plate camera today with no luck.I tapped into the reverse lights at the taillight, ran my av cable to the plug marked (rear view camera) coming out of the back of my pioneer avic d3,put it in reverse and nada.My kit came with no instructions(gotta love ebay).I'm gonna try hooking into the trailer plug next but what wires are what.I have no red or black wires in either plug? I looked all over the net for a install video on one these type cameras on a 04-08 150 and got nothing. This project should not have been hard,I don't understand where I went wrong? Can anyone help?I'm trying to get this done by tonight cause I'm on call 24/7 for the next 2 weeks.

on the camera side i'll assume you hooked up the ground wire as well.

i'm guessing on the d3 you have to set the unit to sense when the reverse wire is activated or you will have to manually set the deck to switch to reverse video.

you can test out the camera by running it to a monitor input that you know works. that's how i trouble shoot where the issue is.

Thanks for the advice and I'm gonna try hooking it to another monitor and see how that goes.On another site they said the d3 has a violet wire that is the reverse sensing wire but what does that hook to? All the wires that came with my camera are spoken for.Any ideas......

that violet wire i'm certain taps into your reverse wire so that way the head unit senses something to switch over to your camera.

quickest way to test right now is to hook up your camera to the video in of your head unit and switch to that video source on your deck then put your truck in reverse to activate the camera.

BAHHHHH did you just say TEST LIGHT???? Throw that thing away and get a Digital Multi Meter.

Secondly, your reverse cam input wont do anything if your D3 doesnt know the truck is in reverse. The purple wire needs to be connected to a reverse signal just like the camera does. I believe in the 04-08's is a pink/black wire in the main harness in the driver kick panel running towards the back.

After having my camera hooked up for about 2 days, I unhooked it from the reverse, and hooked a power wire from a switched source to a small toggle switch on the dash.
I like it alot better being able to turn it on and off whenever I want, instead of having it come on every time I put it in reverse.

that can make it like a spy cam which isn't a bad idea.
