new reverse camera

hey guys im trying to wire up a reverse camera in my truck i have a AVIC-f900bt headunit and a pioneer backup camera. The wire from the camera plugs into a box and on the other end there is a spot for an rca hookup and also there is a red and black wire coming out. Im guessing the rca goes to the headunit and the other is just power and ground. Two ?'s for you: 1)how does the headunit know when its in reverse and activate the camera 2)where can i find a key/on constant power wire under the sillplate on the drivers side? its a 2004 supercrew

who makes the backup camera u r referring to? is it also pioneer, like an add on?
i looked at the only camera on pioneer's website and the kit looks like it comes with a button that you manually push to view the camera. so did your kit include this button? or is it a different kit?

i don’t understand your second question but if you’re talking about searching for a wire that has power when the key turns and splice into it... i don’t think that’s ever a good idea. Relays, fuses, and other electrical stuff can be adversely affected.

Not sure on the '04, but my '05 SuperCrew Lariat has a circuit that's hot only in reverse inside the cab. My truck didn't come with the backup sensors, but the harness that powers the beeper module is there, just not used. It's way up high above your left foot, just to the left of where the steering column pierces the firewall. Get yourself a wiring manual (link to a complete '05 manual below) and you can find the color codes for everything.
