If you use pioneer nav it DOES use vss. Connect pink wire to black / grey in wire harness.

Sounds like Pioneer uses old technology then.
The brands that I looked at prior to purchase
all get the speed info through the GPS antenna
(Alpine, Kenwood, JVC, Clarion, Rosen).
Makes for a true plug & play install, no chasing
of unrelated audio wires.

You don't have to hook it up. Its only for if you lose signal going through a tunnel it can tell if your still moving. I didn't hook mine up for the 2 years I had it.

Install isn't too bad. Just normally has a lot of wires, just follow the instructions and keep things organized with zip ties and electrical tape for a clean install and you'll be done in no time!

Pioneer isnt outdated. The vss gives accuracy within 10 feet. Ask the manufacturer. Of course it works without it. It is there for a reason.

"DNX6160 (Kenwood) acquired 13 out of 14 satellites (#19 being the one I couldn't) within 4 seconds, with the accuracy being less than 10 feet...."

CNet reviews on Kenwood
without the vss
