For those with the Factory installed RES

I'm a little confused here and hope that someone who has the RES installed can explain something.

I just installed the RES in my 2006 SC which is connected to factory NAV! Everything works great, but what confuses me is that the wireless headphones that came with the DVD, will not play back the Sound of the DVD?!

In dual play mode I can get them to pick up FM, CD, and SR but not the DVD! Shouldn't these headphones purpose be to let the people in the rear watch the DVD and hear it without bothering the driver who might be listening to the radio?

So far I can only hear the DVD playback through the front two speakers.... which is odd considering the DVD is for the REAR! You'd think in Dual play, when the rear speakers get muted, the headphones would pick up the DVD playback?! Is any of this making sense?

Is this the way the sytem is suppose to work? I feel like its backwards.

Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers

for whats its worth, I learned today that the programming in the NAV unit I bought has a newer version of DVD software intended for a different style of DVD other than the ovherhead rail. Unfortunately, the company I bought the NAV from isn't sure there are any options to get me up and running properly?

Does any know if there was ever an F150 pre 2006 that came from the factory with NAV and an overhead rail dvd system? If this can be verified, theres a chance the new NAV can be uploaded with the proper programming to make the DVD work right!

Other wise I'll have to return the NAV or sell it here!

Just ditch the factory setup and get an aftermarket dvd/nav system and put in a pair of headrest monitors for the kiddies.

05red,

easier said than done! I just bought both the NAV and DVD new and intend to keep the setup factory!

on a good note.... there is a different program that can be installed to get the DVD system I have installed to work, just need to ship it back and wait!

Thanks

Hey Nemisus, I have heard that problem about the 05 overhead rail dvd and the 07 navigation. I think the 05 dvd is a 16 pin and the newer dvd which is the one that stretches across the roof if a 32 pin,(i bet thats where the problem is, but programming should fix it) which came out in 07. When I had my nav programeed , the guy said that there was a chance that it would not work with some older dvd. I also went factory, but i got the 08 dvd that goes across the roof. ( have no overhead rails). HOpe you get it figured out, i think one can also send in the dvd player and have it programed also. Maybe you should call the guy and send both units.

From what I learned the NEW style of DVD is a multi-channel DVD and the older Rail style is single channel.

By default the NAV was programmed with FES multi-channel as thats they style of DVD that was offered when the NAV was.

All I needed was the FES program to make it work. The place I bought the NAV says I might be the first to ever try this combo of NAV and DVD.. They were also very suprised it worked when the bench tested the older programming!

The NAV has been sent back for re-programming so now I just play the waiting game!

Thanks for the feed back though!

Cheers
