Decisions, decisions......

I have narrowed my search for a nav unit to either a Pioneer AVIC-X910BT or a Kenwood DNX6140. I have read pros and cons on both of them. As far as features go , they both have what I need. The Pioneer adds an SD card slot but other than that I can't see much difference.

I know the Kenwood uses Garmin for nav and Parrot for Bluetooth, I have no idea what the Pioneer uses.

Can anyone offer advice from experience?

Thanks,
Jim

I also am looking at those same units. I have lots of music video's and movies on my ipod classic. Can we watch/listen to these movies while driving. We have a 2003 F150 ext. cab. We also would like the nav and back up camera. Thanks for any info.

What does the Pioneer have built in that the Kenwood doesn't. I don't need the hi voltage pre outs. The Kenwood has a bigger screen but the Pioneer has a SD slot.

What navigation system does the Pioneer use?
How often are map updates released for the Pioneer and how much do they cost?

Thanks

Pioneer uses their own interface with Teleatlas maps. Kenwood uses Garmin with Navteq maps. Pioneer uses Parrot as well.

Navigation goes to Kenwood, Ipod Control/bluetooth functionality goes to Pioneer.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably go for the Kenwood since I'm use to Garmin nav equipment, and the slightly larger screen. I don't own an iPod and don't forsee one in the future so that doesn't bother me.

The pioneer actually uses a Pioneer version of IGo nav software. Very similiar to the PC version of IGo. I'm not sure about the Kenwood, but there are tons of mods you can do to the Pioneer. Check out Avic411.com there is plenty of information available.

Since reading pages of complaints about the Pioneer at the Avic forum, I think I'll go with the Kenwood.

A lot of that has to do with Pioneer owners being picky as hell. The First series of the new AVIC's (F700, F900, etc) had a lot of bugs and were slow as hell. The new generation is much better, and updates are being released all the time.

Thanks for the help. Maybe most of the complaints were bogus but some seemed valid to me. I was looking specifically for the X910BT complaints and maybe that isn't the new generation. The X910BT or the Kenwood 6140 are about the top of my budget so I want to choose the best of the two.
