The option of relocating the 3 additional buttons is not accetaptable. (As many installers have offered).
Ahhh....... I understand now. In that case I would probably just bite the bullet and go with the OEM navigation setup. I'm sure you could haggle with them and get the price @ a more reasonable cost. Good luck!

This one would work as far as the 6 buttons go. You still wouldn't have the wood grain though.

UPDATE:
So I was able to find a 6 button, wood grained console. And complete with all the buttons. From EBAY!!!

Now I have better options... Do I do the aftermarket NAV route on my own? Do I beat up the outsourced dealer/installer and have him cut out the crap and cost of console parts that dont match?

I am tempted to go aftermarket. I really want the unit to work with the small blue LCD screen on the top.

I agree that losing the information center for Sirius, AM/FM, etc would not be very good. I wonder if the info center can be used with either the Ford or an Aftermarket nav installed? I would be very interested in knowing that.

What I did find is this: If you have the Factory NAV you dont have the Blue/White LED text info center above the console. The Nav console is a bit taller.
BUT, they made the center parts such that _I_ can install BOTH the info text screen AND the NAV console. I just loose a small amount of space below the cigarette lighter.

AND I suspect that the SYNC is a seperate module. So that may still work. I am thinking of goigfn towards the Pioneer Z110BT. My older truck had a Pioneer AVIC-N2 that I will be selling on ebay or craigslist.

I have a few pics and I noticed that the Nav doesn't have the info center. I actually have an FX4, so I only have 3 buttons. You must have the Lariat if you have 6. I would have bought the Nav, but I couldn't find an 09 that had it with the other options I wanted.

I'm very interested in your project, as I am inclined to do something along the same lines. Please keep us updated!

This is an interesting option for the Nav. It is saying that it is compatible with Sync. I would think it would use nav screen as opposed to the info display, but not sure.

Visteon

I'm a new member currently deployed in Iraq. I just ordered a 10 FX4 SCrew through the Military Car Sales program. I am interested in an after market nav unit for it too. The over 2K price for the factory unit seems as ridiculous as $1000 for the power moon roof. The Visteon looks exactly what I want since it is compatible with the backup camera, ipod, blue tooth and Sync.

I sent an email to a Visteon distributor/installer located in Columbus, OH asking about the unit and install price. When I get a reply I will post it.

ANOTHER UPDATE:

So I pulled out my Lariat console and compared front and back to the NAV console I got from ebay:
Both have the same 6 buttons. Good.
Both have wood grain. good.
The Nav console is taller, but no biggie as the virtical nature of the design just means a trim cut is needed on the bottom plate below the cig lighter.

BUT, and this a show stopper:
The plugs, wires and harness that plug into the enviromental controls on the current NO NAV Console DO NOT MATCH the Nav Console. Not even close.
The Nav console has a simple 6 pin cable. My no nav console has like two huge 8-12 each pins harnesses. How the hell an i supposed to convert that!

I dont even think an pro installer could do it. This may mean a force choice os the Factory nav. With the highly overpriced outsourced installer.
Feedback please!

Sopher...if you have to go the factory rout, do now pay those clowns to install it. Depending on where your located, I can get someone to install it for a helluva lot cheaper
