mandatory nav ack screen survey
mandatory nav ack screen survey
My jvc (navteq based kw-nt1) unit I just got requires you to ack the "i'm not an idiot" screen *every* time you turn the car on, I'm just wondering if it's now the de facto standard on new units. They're claiming it's required by law, but my older garmin handheld times out after 30 seconds or so, but this one will not show the map, until you poke it.
I see there's a cottage industry out there for hacks to factory nav units, but can't find anyway to get rid of this without disassembling the windows ce code and potentially turning the unit into a brick if I get it wrong.
So I'm wondering what manu, model# age & yes/no on the overlylawyered cya button everyone has.

I have a kenwood dnx-7120 that does it also, but only when you go to the nav screen. The radio, dvd, and ipod screen work just fine. To be honest, I've never waited to see if it timed out at some point. I'll check it next time I use the nav.
I have a pioneer f90bt and it shows up everytime you access any nav function. I believe it is law that they include this warning on any vehicle navigation system. My wifes factory nav in her Edge also has a similiar warning.
I finally got a hold of jvc round/level 2, and he said that there is no law that requires this and that it is added for my "convenience", and that it's "built into the unit" which is horse you know what, as I already reloaded the OS with an update, so I suspect it's the nav software suppliers legal team, or the manufacturer's. If anyone can cite a federal reg, statute or law, I'd love to see it.

I have the JVC KW-NT1 also and it ONLY will prompt you to do that if you are trying to view the navigation screen. If you turn the truck off while watching a movie or listening to MP3 or SD card, it will not prompt you to do that when you turn the car back on.
Every navigation or DVD unit I've had has done this. At least the NT1 only asks you to when you are trying to view the nav screen though.

Do some research. I know people have managed to circumvent this warning on some of the Avic units from pioneer. I'm not sure if anyone has figured this out on any other units but I'm sure someone is working on it.
