Sync, Itunes, and External Hard Drive
Sync, Itunes, and External Hard Drive
I copied my entire music library onto a Western Digital external hard drive that I had sitting around. I plugged it into the USB port of my '09 F150 and the truck said that not all of the music was able to be played due to media rights protection or something like that. I was able to play some songs though. I have an ipod with this same library but would prefer to leave it at home and use the hard drive from the console.
Are there any computer experts out there that could lend me a hand. I don't know anything about formatting drives or removing the DRM tags or whatever.
Thanks

Well I like using the Ipod around the house checking stocks, reading news... I don't always have it so I would like have a permanent hard drive in the truck. I know there are other guys pulling this off.
I don't think it is possible to play songs that are in Apple's DRM format, urchased from iTunes, on the Sync system unless you play them off of the iPod. Copying them to an external HD will not work.
Same as trying to play them on your computer through, say, Windows Media Player and not iTunes. Won't work as the DRM bits get in the way.
There are ways to convert Apple DRM encoded files to MP3. Haven't looked in to it for a couple of years as I stopped buying stuff from iTunes since almost all of what is on there can be bought in regular MP3 these days from Amazon, Walmart, etc. Even iTunes has non-DRM options now as well for a bit more per song.
