Is anyone familar with factory Sync units?

I am buying a new 09 Epedition and it has Sync already but not the sync nav unit. I want to upgrade to the sync nav/sirus travel unit.

1. should this swap be pretty much plug and play since they are both sync units.

2. Does anyone have a good dealer source that sells new factory Nav units at a good price. The Ford dealer I am buying the truck from is telling me 3k for the sync nav unit. That sounds way high to me. I was thinking 1500-2k was about what it should run me. Anyone know what a good price for a new factory sync nav unit for a 2009 Expedition should run?

Make sure you double check with the dealer and have them double check with Ford re: adding the factory nav after the fact to the '09 Expedition.

I went through the same thing on a '09 F150 and initially the dealer said they could add the factory nav unit to the truck at the dealer (the truck had the upgrade Sony/Sync system already but not the nav unit). After talking to Ford directly, Ford confirmed you could not add the factory navigation unit after the fact to the '09 F150 because of the integration between the Sync system and display and other parts of the vehicle (climate, etc).

They mentioned that the '09 F150 and another vehicle, which I didn't pay much attention to but I think it may have been the '09 Expedition, were both unable to be upgraded after being built.

So best to double check and have the dealer confirm in writing that it can e done and and that it will in fact be the factory navigation system and not a after market third party unit.

I believe the nav option is around $2340 list, which would not include installation if done at the dealer. So $3k or so with installation time might be about right.

In the end the dealer wound up finding a F150 for me in the region that had what I wanted and I pick it up today
