Factory Nav Radio Issues

Hello all,
I am brand new here, and have some ?'s. Before everyone gets mad at me, first let me say I do not own an F-150, however reading your posts leads me to believe there are some pretty knowledgable folks here, and I hope you can help. I have an '05 Ford Freestyle, and recently purchased an OEM Nav radio that came from an '07 Freestyle. It was pretty much plug n play, with a few exceptions. I am able to play CD's and listen to the radio, and most other functions work as well. However, I am not able to set the time or update the calender, as the functions to do so will not enable themselves (turn on). I can see thetime set functions as well as the AM/PM/24HR format, but as I said they will not enable themselves when I turn the clock function on. The HU came with an LP4 disc, but I also get a fault error message telling me to contact the dealership. The vehicle this HU came from was located in the midwest, as when the HU is powered on, I have a map of the Chicago area, and the arrow just flashes. Is all of this a programming issue, or is my HU faulty? I did post my ? on the Ford Freestyle board, but I haven't received a response, so I hope someone here is able to offer some ideas. I do appreciate any help/comments or suggestions, and like I said I don't have an F150, but am proud to be a fellow Ford owner.

Thanks!

I'll be making a trip to the dealer tomorrow. I guess I've stumped this board as well as the Freestyle board. Thanks to you guys that stopped in to read my post anyway.

Sounds to me like you need the GPS antennna.

No functions like clock/calendar or map data will work until it sees infor from the satelites (antenna).

Did you install the OEM antenna with the unit?

I installed some "timble"?? antenna with it. I'm pretty sure I put it in enough. I put the antenna on the behind (but up above) the unit. should I try a new antenna?

I would try it with a known good antenna if at all possible.

I installed my unit without the antenna (OEM unit was on backorder) to check operation, and see if any additional functions needed to be programmed.

Initially my unit had the same issues that are described here (clock/calendar greyed out, no map functions). Got it back from programming, installed everything (OEM unit came in) and everything works exactly as it should.

Also - the factory location of the antenna is under the intrument cluster beauty trim (the curved piece above the gauges) if anyone cares.

Hope this helps

Vmaxxer, thanks for your response. I had pretty much narrowed it down to the antenna. The installer thought the XM antenna plugged into the rear of the HU where the gps antenna goes, because the connection for the XM was the same color and shape. I have an oem on order and hope that clears this mess up. G5ricky, the Trimble didn't work for you?, 'cause I looked at those on Ebay too.

Thanks again!

RE: Nav Problems

I've bought 2 of these on ebay. One was from a Ford "something " not an F-150 (can't recall right now). The other was from a Lincoln Zephyr. I only have a 4 speaker system-no sirius, ipod, subamp, steering controls, etc. Both units had "issues". The first unit acted up like crazy-nothing worked right. I had both sent in and programmed for an F150.

I have a "DVD-R copy", so I can keep the orig. safe, and it still works fine. The antenna has to be mounted horizontally or it won't work. I nylon-tied it behind the radio on a flat spot under the dash. I had one oem & one aftermarket antenna. They both work fine. (The second one is in my son's F150).

I think most of problems are programming issues. If a unit comes out of a certain model car it may stll not work right until programmed for your features. I had to give model year and date of manufacture along with any features I had, or want to have (satellite, Aux), to get the programming right. Both units now work like a charm.

My unit is in now. I can tell you I plastic tied to a metal brace behind and above the radio( a little to the left?). I think it is a brace for the dash. Loop a couple of ties-fairly long, position the antenna unit on the top of the brace. Slide ties over unit-one on each side. Hold the unit while you pull the ties tight. It will stay flat. Trim the ties.
