So I can see the handle being that much, but 233 for the camera? I know it is cool to bolt right in and have the lines, but sheesh, that is way pricey.
I think you need to think about a few things. The Ford OEM camera is designed for this application. This means the camera will tolerate the temperature and other climate extremes, as well as, vibration. The camera is very well built, mounts securely, and at the best position and angle (the tailgate handle). I've seen other cheaper cameras suffer lens fog, lens cracking, and just plain failure after 1 year from the vibration. You can also agree that the OEM camera will look correctly on the screen and will not be tilted toward one side or the other because the camera wasn't installed correctly. I think the $233 is very cheap insurance and assurance that the OEM camera will probably last for the truck's lifetime.

Question
I have a 2006 F150 and i have the chance to snag a 2009 F150 OEM camera. Would i be able to make this 2009 camera work on a 2006 truck (including buying a handle to support it and actually fit on my truck)

Or am i out of luck?

Must be nice to be able to "snag" stuff, lol. The '09 camera is under the raised Ford logo on in the middle of the tailgate. Different than the previous body style that had it in the handle. Not sure if the logo will bolt/stick on our tailgates, but you would have to drill a hole in the tailgate for the wires.

It might work, don't get me wrong...you would need to be the guinea pig (most likely not wanting to be I bet). Maybe we could get some sizes and such from '09 owners and compare it to our 04-08 logos.

I saw a pic of the 09 tailgate and it doesnt seem like it would be a good fit. they make it pretty seamless on the 09 tailgate which the 06-08 tailgate is pretty much way different. Plus i might want to keep it with the stock parts so it looks like it came with the truck. I just thought maybe the 09 put it in the same spot. Plus this all started since i could get a good deal on a 09 camera. Now if i only could find a great deal on a 06-08 camera lol

Greetings, I just read through these posts real quick. I would like to install a rear camera into my 09 F-150. I tried to get my order changed but the dealer said it was too late. I have the nav system radio so I will look into buying the parts listed here. One question, do they all plug into the stock wiring harness near the bumper? One last question, anyone install the "Home Link" sunvisor if they did not order the option?

So far the consensus seems to be, if the truck didn't come from the factory with the camera, the wring is not already in place to the back of the truck.

KR2008, do you have the tailgate handle camera or is it the emblem camera. I added the emblem camera to my 09 F-150. I can tell you all what I did, but I didn't take any pictures.

Smile Backup camera f-150 2008

I have a factory backup camera in the handle. I have add a navigaton system in my truck. Does the camera displays only in the mirror and it shows in the screen navigation system. But it's ok for the pictures, was just to know where the wire passed. Can you tell me if the wires is already gone back.

Thank you very much
