iphone adapter mod

Not sure where to post this, but I'd love to show off my mod to my iphone FM transmitter/charger. I've learned so much from this website I thought it was time I shared.

I wanted to keep my HU stock for 2 reasons: money (need tires) and crime rate on my street. I really do want a nice Pioneer double DIN touch screen, but its just not in the cards at the moment. So I decided to try an FM transmitter with my iphone. I have a satellite radio that transmits FM and have had no problems with it so far.
I ended up trying a few different iphone adapters as some of them sounded horrible and some of them wouldn't work with the 3G model phone I have. Some of them cost $100 or even more. Yet, the best sounding one I found was only $39 CAD and it charges my phone at the same time.
Here's the link: http://www.mediagateusa.com/ikit.html

I only had two issues: it sat right where my manual shift **** is and I wanted it to switch on and off at the same time as the radio. So I decided to hard wire it to my radio circuit and I permanently mounted it to my dash using a small piece of 22 gauge stainless steel. With a little bit of cutting, drilling, soldering and gluing I was able to modify the ikit so that it sat just above my heater/AC vent. Its the perfect place to access the touch screen and still be able to use the mic for hands free calling. Its so much easier to see the navigation maps as well. The best part of all is I didn't have to modify my dash in any way, so if I ever get rid of the phone or the truck I don't have to worry about ugly leftover holes.

I'm not able to post pictures in threads yet so I've posted pictures in my gallery for anyone who would like to see how it looks. Feel free to contact me if there are any questions.

Do you run into static with the stations? Are they always clear? I bought a FM transmitter from Walmart that was 54.00 and when you hear words that start with "s" you hear the static. Most stations have some sort of static and is never clear. So I dont want to buy another one if I am going to run into the same situation? What is your experience with it?

I've had one of those since I picked up an iPhone last summer. It works pretty good, except the flexible arm on mine eventually snapped. It still works and I have the arm wrapped up.

The FM transmitter is the clearest sounding transmitter I've listened to, and the hands free phone works very well also.

BTW, I got mine for $28 shipped on ebay.

Try turning down the volume on your iphone/ipod, and then turn up the volume on your head unit. That'll take care of the s static.

Thanks, I will try that. should I turn the volume on the iphone down before I hook it up? I will do this before deciding to buy another one. Thanks

It doesn't really matter if you do it before or after. Just make sure it's not cranked all the way. I set mine a little over 3/4 volume, and then adjust with the volume on the head unit.

Which one do you have? If I could just buy a good headunit and not worry if a fm transmitter will work or not, I would be happy with that. I need a model number. Does it plug in up front or in the back? I also have an amp and 2 10" subs. Thanks

This is the one I've got: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...rs/DEH-P4000UB

but it looks like this is the new model: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...er/DEH-P4100UB

There is a cord in the back of the head unit with a USB plug. The iPod/Phone plugs in with the same cord you'd use to attach it to a computer.

Iwas thinking about this one since it has the USB and auxillary in the front.
