Pioneer Avic F-90BT & Factory Back-up cam installed...

Well, I finally installed the Pioneer F-90.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who takes the time to post information on installations.

Every single question I had in advance of receiving the unit was answered by just searching through and reading this Forum.
Everything from splicing in a stock Ford Camera, to the 5volt regulator for the turn on power to the factory sub, to the color and location of the VSS and Back-up wires was found here on previous posts. Even the part numbers for the tailgate latch and camera from Tasca were here! p.s. My truck is an 06, and the 08 latch with the camera hole / mount fits easily with just a small amount of trimming. There are lots of cameras available, I went with the ford one simply because of the quality of both the unit and the picture / video, etc, based on reviews. It isn't much more than a Pioneer cam, and with the 08-latch you get a stock look and really good picture.

The unit works very well, it boots up completely in less than twenty five seconds, and the back-up camera comes on in the first 5 seconds of turning on the truck. The i-pod plays within 10 seconds. Not bad considering what I had read about the delays.
Coming from several Garmin gps units, I was surprised at how well the Nav works, and it's loaded with POI's and features.

Crappy cell pics of the unit, and my first attempt at a customized splash screen:

Thanks again to everyone who posts the info for us "do it yourselfers" much appreciated!

Going to get my F90 installed when I get back in may along with the new pioneer cam that came out. Anything you DON'T like about it so far?

JJDH,

My sub was popping as well. The HU sends 12 volts via the blue and white amp turn on wire to the stock amp. The Ford amp and sub only use 5 volts, hence the popping.

I used a 5V Regulator from Radio Shack (The Source) and spliced it into the blue and white wire and ran it's ground lead to ground.

This will stop the popping. You can also use a resistor, not sure, I think it's a 5000 ohm one that will do the same thing.

I really haven't had it in long enough, nothings perfect, but so far I'm quite happy. Some of the reviews I read lead me to believe that it was really slow to boot, etc. However it hasn't been that bad at all. I'm not one to start my truck and drive off immediately anyway, so the boot up time doesn't matter to me. People have to remember that it's handling your navigation, tunes, phone, etc and is essentially a computer. Power your home computer off, re-start it and see how long it takes before you can use it....
You'll find lots of tips, hacks, positive and negative reviews on the Avic forum.

It is a computer, running Windows CE. Why they wouldn't run Linux blows my mind.

This is all you need, no more popping, they're a couple bucks at Radio shack.

I'm not sure where on here I first read about the regulator, but if it was yours, much appreciated.....
