Tried on my own. Must ask for help.

Ok, long story short. I have an IPOD that Im trying to run to my stock head unit on my 2005. I ordered a stock to rca:

Which should make it so that I hit the AUX button and it would pick up my ipod. Well the adapter harness only came with TWO WIRES I needed to wire, 12 V source and a ground. I tried tapping into the head units stock harness (green and purple i believe) for power and grounded it myself but I still get "NO AUX AUDIO" on the head unit. Im guessing no power or improper ground on the converter? I used a butt connector to tap into the power and a self drilling screw into part of my dash framing I guess to ground it. Did I go about it correctly and just made an error with my two wires or should I have found a different power source?? Im not sure how to test if the converter has power or not seeing how its just to RCA's coming out of it. I should admit, I know nothing about wiring. Thanks, this is driving me crazy.
