Sirius Radio, ipod and peripheral media gateway install

Hey all,

Just thought I would pass along my experience (and a few pics) with a recent install from a few toys I recevied at Christmas.

I received a Sirus Sportser 5 radio and a Peripheral Electronics media gateway (http://www.peripheralelectronics.com/?ProductId=276) for my 05 SuperCrew. I also purchased a SATX56 from Peripheral, a direct power supply for the Sportster (http://www.peripheralelectronics.com/?ProductId=124).

I already had a Ram Mount flex arm mounted in my dash for a previous GPS unit. I did that install a few years ago by removing the plastic change holder (or whatever it is) from the spot where I believe a 4WD switch would be on 4wd models, just left of the radio. I had to use a dremel tool to grind down the diameter of the round end of the mount. I used a flat piece of 1/4" metal strapping to secure it from behind in the dash with two black screws and nylon locking nuts.

Since I already had the arm I just needed to get the parts I needed from RAM for the Sportster and the iPod.

I installed the direct power unit behind the ashtray and picked off the acc and constant 12v for the reqiured power. The media gateway (also behind the ashtray) was very straightforward to install. I suggest updating the firmware before installing and making sure your ipod has the latest firmware. When I first installed the media gateway I couldn't control the ipod until I updated the media gateway firmware. I installed the Sirus antenna next to the third brakelight (suggestions found here, thanks!) and ran it in the headliner to the passenger side pillar and down behind the dash, took a bit but very clean looking.

I like the fact that I can now control my ipod through the radio controls and I have a direct source for both the ipod and Sirius units. If I ever get/need a new ipod I just have to replace a $8 Ram mount.
