Yes, another Ipod question....

I have seen conflicting answers to this question on different posts. So Im gonna ask for myself.

I have a new body 2004 F-150 Lariat. With the Indash 6-CD. It has the AUX button ( I think... I am in Iraq, so I might be wrong) But it DOES NOT say MP3 on the headunit.

I want to use my Ipod in my truck.

Is a PIE what I need? I saw a PIE on ebay that came with more than the 3.5 mm headphone to RCA jack. It appears to also come with a wire that plugged into the bottomo of the ipod to charge it. I dont think it allowed the radio to change songs, but it just kept it charged. Was I seeing things?

But thats the least of my worries. Will the PIE work with the radio I have or do I need the MP3 compatible headunit.

I don't believe you'd need an MP3 HU. The iPod should do all the decoding and send it out. The MP3 decks were for people who load a CD full of MP3's. The deck could do the decoding and you could put a couple hundred MP3's on a CD instead of 20 or so songs.

Agreed. Pluggin your iPod into the AUX line is no different than plugging in headsets to it.

I am looking for some kind of direct connect for my ipod. I have an 04 with a single disc/cassette head unit. Anyone know where I can get something that will allow me to hook up my ipod without using a fm transmitter.

I have this company's media gateway in my 05 Screw, not sure if they have one for the 04 or if they have just an ipod interface. They seem to have quite a bit and it works great, even utilizes the steering wheel controls and diplays the songs on the OEM unit:

The PIE and UNI-POD are what you need. The cable plugs into the bottom of the iPod and charges it. It is also how it connects to the stereo. You control the music thru the iPod. It is the AUX button on the stereo that allows the iPod to work. I installed a navigation system in my truck, but used this setup. It works great, but is sitting in the garage now. I liked controlling the music with the iPod better. It is faster.

Anybody need one?

I used to have my Ipod running through my factory deck via PIE adapter and AUX button. It should work.

I have the periperals I am looking to sell ( got a new head unit) I also have the harmon kardon drive and Play I will also sell. I have it in my supercrew with a non mp3 radio. Mine also has a harness that is direct plug and play so no wire splicing is needed. My unit also has the ability to put 2 aux sources through it and has a swich. You can control the ipod through the drive and play. If your interested just send me a PM. I will try to be reasonable in pricing.

I have the same question. The links go to sites where they have stuff for the 05s forward. I have an AUX button on my 04 6 disc audiophile too. Is there a hookup in the back of the HU that can be used with the IPOD or not? Edit: Crutchfiled says thishttp: //www.crutchfield.com/p_469FRD4AUX/Precision-Interface-Electronics-FRD04-AUX-Adapter.html?tp=422 works:

Yes, on the PIE you

1 unplug the connector at the back of the radio

2 plug in the PIE

3 plug the radio connector into the PIE

4 there are power and ground wires to connect

5 the PIE has two RCA jacks that you can connect to UNI-POD or a jack

it's pretty simple, and this was a quick explanation.

If you use the search, there are photos of the wires and how they tied into them.
