Thinking about getting a GPS

Hey guys!

I am thinking about getting a GPS for Christmas. I know some of the companies but not all of them. Anyone know of a good GPS that works well off road as well as on road. I want to be able to see the trail i am on when I am off roading, and the street I am on when driving. I want to be able to mark a camp spot on the GPS and then be able to make my way back to it. It doesnt really matter if its a hand held or one that is in the car... anybody got any suggestions? Any advice will help...
Thanks alot!!

D

I don't think you'll find one with (many) offroad trails already in it. There are too many man made roads out there that people don't know about, especially GPS manufs.

I've been looking for a handheld that I can take geocaching, but also have streets so I can take it in the truck. I have yet to find one that's sold locally.

most come preloaded with roads mapped and can be updated via the web.

I dont think you will find many available with trails loaded in them. Check the black Friday ads in a few weeks- just google Black Friday and look for GPS units. Check back frequently as many retailers try and one-up the competition and do price wars

I got a steal on mine like that last season

I personally have a Garmin 76CS and mounts for truck, motorcycle and it is hand held. It is great all around unit that it waterproof and milspec for vibration etc...

Wife has a Garmin Nuvi 200 which is cool but not very durable for anything other than in a car.

Hope it helps

You can take a look at the Garmin Nuvi 500. I don't have any experience with it, but it is a street GSP that also has topographic maps.

Any street GPS will be able to mark anywhere on the map, street or not. It will just show a park as green, water as blue and a field as the background color.

The "TomTom-1XL is fully featured and reasonably priced.
I see several of the type sold for below list price at some PoP Boys around the NE.
