Rear view camera

A few months ago I installed a Kenwood DNX 5120 in my '08 Screw. The truck came with the OEM rear view camera. Since that time I have heard that it is possible to also have the camera view shown on the dash unit (much larger than the postage stamp view in the rear view mirror). I have tried to find the instructions in the search but so far no luck.

Also can anyone tell me which wire is the dimmer wire behind the dash? I would like to like to hook the unit up to it as the internal dimmer control in the unit still leaves the display a little too bright at night.

Thanks, HYPO

I know one of you electrically gifted individuals can do this. Don't be bashful, go ahead and chime in.

check this thread out,
https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...g-diagram.html
it shows the wiring schematics for the camera to the mirror. You should be able to figure out which and where your video source wires are, and then splice those into an RCA Jack, which you can plug in to the back of the 5120.

and also, did you not wire the unit up to the dimmer wire on the harness? the dimmer wire should be present at the radio plug so that you can dim the headunit when you turn on the lights.
I just got my 8120 hooked up a week ago and it does just fine.
If you did hook it up, go thru the units settings, it should have a setting for illumination dimming (mine does)
The first night mine was ridiculously bright and then i went thru the options and auto dim was turned off.

Thanks much for the reply Fabian. I do have the dimmer wire hooked up, but it does not dim when the dimmer on the dash is turned, regardless ocamera f the setting on the unit. I have the unit's internal dimming turned all the way down, and although this helps a lot, it is still a bit brighter at night than I care for.

I also appreciate the link to the past thread, but I am trying to make sense of what is being discussed. I thought there was a wire going to the mirror display that I could tap into with the camera wire from the unit. I need to find out which wire that happens to be.

Low e Red, I found the thread you are referring to. There is mention of Vid+, Vid-, and ground wires. I have just one wire, coming from the adapter which plugs into the dash unit, which is designated for the rear view camera. The adapter is grounded to the vehicle's ground, so where do I connect the wire designated rear view camera? To Vid+ ?
