GPS costs

Any body out there with GPS either hand held or auto installed, I was wondering if there are any monthly costs to operate. ie subscriptions to use the satallites and such?

Thanks,

FX

No.
I have a Garmin handheld and a Magellan for the auto.
No monthly fees or subscriptions.
Maybe I'm missing out on some features but, they work.

I'm not sure about the purpose out in Colorado or New Mexico anyways...

Actually I'm going camping next weekend and my friends and I always have a hard time finding our spot (its real camping) and I'm hoping that I can record my route with waypoints and such.

not to hi jack your thread, but I was wondering, are there any GPS units better than another for off-road excursions i.e. making routes and saving them for future use.

Ok here's the deal

A GPS will not cost you anything montly unless your GPS supports Liver traffic or MSN Direct and you subscribe to these services. These two services will provide up to date traffic information (traffic, accidents, etc). I would only recommend a GPS with these services to someone who lives in a Metro-city area.

Another feature of GPS systems is text-to-speech. With it your GPS will say turn on John st. Without it your GPS will say turn in .25 miles.

My favorite GPS right now is the Garmin Nuvi 255W. If you click on the link below you will save $50 with Best Buy on any Garmin GPS. Hope this helps
