Question Ford Microsoft SYNC system

Can the sync system be purcharsed as a part....I mean I have an '05 and I'd like to upgrade the headunit with the sync. Would that be too difficult or should I just go with some aftermarket system?

I dont think it can so I would go aftermarket. The new Pioneer F 700 or 900Bt voice recognition is similar to sync. Also the units included Microsoft MSN direct, which can provide the weather and movie times. check it out at crutchfield. The reason I know is b/c my girlfriend has a new ford car that came with sync.

To answer you question on if it can be added on. No They intergrated into the vehicles so you couldn't add it. Why i am not sure, but that is what they told us when they sent me to school on it. I do however think if someone was savy enough and had everything they could do it. The unit they had in class was everything in a rather small box. Power supply and all. So i think it could be done just don't know how difficult it would be to do. I personally love the system and was going to get an '09 when it came out. But got a smoking deal on the FX2 and didn't like the looks of the '09.

Does that mean that you can not upgrade in an '08 as well? I have a new '08 with the premium sound system. I assumed that because everything is "module" these days, that they could just unplug my current head unit and plug in a new Sync.

Well they show an add on system for the navagator but i haven't seen one yet. I was told it was intergrated into the entire vehicle. Ford wouldn't lie to us..... would they? So took so long to reply but they now block this website at my work.... Ford

Ok on Fords accessory web site they show a sync add on kit but only for the Navigator. Glancing over the intructions it seems that you have to have the nav unit radio to start. Will read some more and see if we can get this to work on our trucks. Suguested retail is $420 so if you had to add the nav unit and this it would be really pricey.
