DVD player headrest monitors

Hey all,

I'm looking to add a pair of headrest monitors with dvd players built-in to the seats in my 07 expy so the kiddos can watch whatever they want. The problem is that I can't find any in the local stores (bestbuy, circuitcity, etc.) to check out. I have seen quite a few on ebay but am a bit leary of buying without having seen them in person or even having read a single review.

I don't want to spend $2k on the ford units, but wouldn't mind spending $500 on a decent pair.

Anybody have any info on these things, opinions?

Thanks all.

Look into the Myron and Davis at BBy. Brand new Headrests matched to your interior with the monitors built in. 999$ look for abt 150 for install.

Low_e_Red,

Thanks for the heads up on the Myron and Davis at BB. I did check them out today and they look very nice, but are just way outside my budget. I really only want to spend about $500 max.

I'm thinking hard about picking up a pair from ebay but $500 is quite a bit of money to gamble on quality. Unfortunately most sellers have a 20% restocking fee if you're unhappy with them (plus shipping both ways). I just wish there was a way that I could see them in person first.

See if you can buy just the monitors then... Because if you get away from fleabay and shop for HM's preloaded then you will spend easily in excess of 500.

P.S. The Myrons are a very good deal if they are still the 999.99

You might try www.autobarn.net. Their Vizualogic set of monitors will run you in the $700 range. The list is not very up to date but I bet they have them for the 07. Very good screens and headrests.

Go look in my gallery I have a 08 King Ranch and got some installed. They even matched the King Ranch leather. My kids absolutely love them and I have had zero problems. The video games and joystick that come with it have been a hit with the kids as well. I got them installed through the Ford Aftermarket Department. Good thing is if I ever sell the truck I just unplug them and put my factory headrests back in. I will try to post it here, but my puter will not always open them. I can take better pics if it will help you out at all.

They are Audiovox. I am very happy with them so far. We went down a bumpy road to see how well they would work and could not get them to skip once.

Thanks for the replies all!

Emmitt240, what was the cost of that setup? It looks pretty nice, but it seems like the screens are tilted way forward. Can passengers see the image very well?

dconder, autobarn does sell the visuallogic set, but the $700 set does not include built in dvd players which I prefer to have.

I have 2 kids that will definitely be watching different shows (1 boy and 1 girl 3 years apart) so a single dvd player will not work out for me.

I've got the factory overhead dvd player installed but don't care to use it because it completely blocks the rear view, that's the main reason for moving to headrest monitors. I'd love to sell that thing and get a new headliner installed but the money just doesn't make sense.

So has anyone bought any of the ebay monitors? They're about the only ones that are in my price range.

Thanks,

Russell

I ended up spending more than I wanted to, but got exactly what I wanted. I picked up the Vizualogic A-1290 set on ebay, custom matched to my Ford interior. I actually ordered a set of generic $500 headrest monitors with DVD first but the quality was aweful. Leather didn't match well, screen was not sharp and was washed out, DVD player didn't play many discs, etc. I sent that pair back and ended up with the Vizualogic setup.

It was pricey, but was much better quality. The kiddos can now each watch their own thing, or the DVD up front, or the dvd in the overhead (all on their own screens). The leather matches perfectly, even the texture. And the screens are sharp and bright as they should be.

Installation was super easy, took me about an hour. These things have been going strong with no issues for a couple years now. They were lifesavers on our 13 hour drive to DisneyWorld
