Kenwood DDX512

I am looking at getting a Kenwood DDX512 to replace the single CD Ford radio that I have right now. I am not looking at a GPS head unit as I have a Garmin nuvi that I love.I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with this radio and any warnings against it? I am looking at it instead of a Pioneer mainly because I would like to have the Radio Data System. I will likely be getting XM radio soon, but have resisted thus far. I really like the looks of this radio and so far the cheapest I have found it is $410 online. Let me know if you have any experience with this radio. Thanks for your help.

Dr. Joe,
I 2nd your question, would love to hear a personal review of the unit on this forum. There are some video reviews available on YouTube which may be a good place to start. The only problem I could see in your case would be the fact that you want XM. The XM tuner is not yet available for this unit, only the Sirius. The good news is that XM should be available this month.

Dr. Joe,
I took the plunge & installed my 512 along with the Sirius unit a couple of days ago. I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have about the unit.

How do you like the 512 so far? Any problems with it or things you do not like so far? Also, where did you order it or buy it? I appreciate your help.

Ipod video works with the 512, but there is apparently an issue with the monitor. The only way not to have any black bars when watching a video is to use the "Zoom" function which cuts off some of your screen.

Go to YouTube & search DDX512 & Ipod to find a great video some guy did which shows the interface & problem with the zoom.

If you want XM...go with a pioneer. Their interface with the XM is fantastic
