D3 Nav question for you guys

I was thinking of getting one before the rebate is over. Anyway. Does the Navigation disc have to be in the unit for it to work? Or, do you put in load your route and take it out? I use my current portable GPS around the state. I'm wondering if it holds information so that you can change the routes, destinations etc.. without loading the disc each time?

thanks guys,
and who has the best online price? I'm leaning towards BB at 699, just becasue I can get the replacement plan for 3 years if anything goes wrong. I plan to install it myself.

You pretty much need to leave the nav disc in. You CAN pull the disc after it routes you but without the disc in you can't add stopovers, recalculate the route, etc.

I leave my disc in all the time and it never bothers me. I listen to my iPod and Sirius pretty much exclusively. If you plan to use the disc a lot for DVDs I would probably recommend you look for a different unit. If you're curious about the D3 you can click the link in my signature for a review and lots of photos..
