Dash- mount GPS

I understand it is illegal to mount a GPS(or anything else) on the windshield in Calif. So i will have to use my dash. My question is, can i buy a mount which works by suction so i can take it off when not using the GPS? I don't want to tip off would-be theives i have a GPS in the car.

The garmin C330 gps that I have actually comes with a dash mount. You stick it on the dash and then use the suction cup to mount it.

The dash on most vehicles out there are too rough to support a suction device alone. My portable GPS came with a thin disc that attaches to the dash and then your GPS suction cup connects and disconnects from that disc. My disc was $6 bucks. However I have not found a good place to mount that disc at the moment. Look forward to seeing what every one else has out there.

The disc still leaves a sign you have a GPS. Maybe i'll take a chance and mount it on the windshield and hope the cops don't see it.

I called Garmin and they sell a friction mount- looks like a bean bag which can mount on the dash and can be taken off when not in use. Since it works on friction, there's no need for an adhesive base left on the dash.

I have one of these bags for my old Garmin GPS and it really does work pretty well.

Question

I'm curious how well it stays on since the F-150's have a sloping dash.

Just use the suction mount, they dont' seem to be going after people for it. Was pulled over for speeding recently, and my Garmin was windshield mounted, and he asked me "how do you like the Garmin?" Didnt' ticket me for it.

Plus it's really easy to un-suckion and hide. Dash mount kits cannot be hidden easily.
